Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,495 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 415 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the departure roll from runway 25 at London Luton Airport (EGGW). The Airbus A319 took off with a takeoff distance of 1,037 meters, which was 50% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 150 knots. At the time of departure, the local weather conditions were a temperature of 5°C, with a wind speed of 12 knots at 330°. This resulted in a crosswind of 12 knots and a headwind of 3 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of Luton, it began its enroute climb, reaching an altitude of 3,822 feet above sea level (asl) from an initial altitude of 1,419 feet asl. This climb of 2,403 feet in 1 minute covered a distance of 5 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered a level cruise, lasting 2 minutes and covering 6 nautical miles, 1 mile south of Flamstead in Hertfordshire, England.
The enroute climb resumed 1 mile west of Hatfield, with the aircraft climbing from 3,822 feet asl to 5,707 feet asl, an increase of 1,885 feet in 3 minutes, covering 14 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered another level cruise, lasting 2 minutes and covering 8 nautical miles, overhead Epping in Essex, England.
As the aircraft began its descent, it started 1 mile north of Barking in Greater London, England. The descent from 5,708 feet asl to 1,440 feet asl, a decrease of 4,268 feet in 6 minutes, covered a distance of 24 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 26L at London Gatwick Airport (EGKK) was made from the east, heading 258.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,235 feet above ground level (agl). The landing was made on runway 26L, which had a length of 2,495 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 124 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 414 meters, and the touchdown speed was 118 knots, which was also good. The touchdown rate was good at -189 feet per minute (fpm). However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.6 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 6°C, with a wind speed of 12 knots at 330°, resulting in a crosswind of 11 knots and a headwind of 4 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,323 meters, which was 53% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 10.7 meters from the centreline. The taxiing to the parking from the runway took less than 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 63 nautical miles, taking 18 minutes, and the aircraft used 674 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A319 successfully landed at London Gatwick Airport's runway 26L, achieving a high score of 95.9%. The aircraft approached the runway from the east, heading 258.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,235 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot maintained a good threshold height, which is a critical aspect of a safe landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was within the acceptable range, at 118 kt, and the touchdown distance was also satisfactory at 414 meters. The touchdown rate of -189 feet per minute (fpm) was within the normal limits, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.6 meters from the centerline, which may require some adjustments during the rollout phase.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were moderate, with a temperature of 6°C and a wind speed of 12 kt from 330°. This resulted in a crosswind of 11 kt and a headwind of 4 kt, which the pilot effectively managed during the landing. The total landing distance of 1,323 meters was 53% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance.
During the rollout phase, the aircraft's alignment was slightly misaligned by 10.7 meters from the centerline, which may require some adjustments to maintain a straight path. Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot demonstrated good control and management of the aircraft during the approach, touchdown, and rollout phases.
