Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 305 m and 152 m above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,693 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 290 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with taxiing from the parking to the runway at ENBR Bergen Airport, Flesland, which took 6 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then departed from runway 35, with a takeoff distance of 1,521 meters, which is 62% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 166 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions of 2°C temperature and a wind speed of 2 knots at 325 degrees. The crosswind was 1 knot, and the headwind was 2 knots. The enroute climb started 1 mile north of Flesland and reached an altitude of 11,119 meters above sea level, an increase of 10,762.5 meters in 21 minutes, covering 116 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 5 miles southeast of Egersund and lasted 47 minutes, covering 383 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent 1 mile northwest of Tulau, Germany, and descended from 11,281 meters to 9,441 meters in 5 minutes, covering 43 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise started 2 miles east of Langenstein, Germany, and lasted 5 minutes, covering 43 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began its descent overhead Vogelsberg, Germany, and descended from 9,204 meters to 1,256 meters in 16 minutes, covering 98 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise started overhead Happurg, Germany, and lasted 2 minutes, covering 5 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent 1 mile west of Engelthal, Germany, and descended from 1,219 meters to 725 meters in 3 minutes, covering 7 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 28 at EDDN Nuremberg Airport was from the east, heading 279.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 406.1 meters above ground level. The landing on runway 28 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 290 meters and a touchdown speed of 135 knots. The touchdown rate was fair at -1.5 meters per second, and the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 8.0 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 4°C temperature and a wind speed of 3 knots at 310 degrees, with a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 3 knots. The total landing distance was 1,319 meters, which is 49% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 7.7 meters from the centerline.
The flight ended with taxiing to the parking from the runway, which took 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 701 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 110 minutes. The aircraft used 4,451 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The aircraft, identified as an A21N, successfully landed at EDDN Nuremberg Airport, achieving a high score of 96.6%. The final approach to runway 28 was initiated from the east, with the aircraft heading 279.0° at an altitude of 406.1 meters above ground level (agl) and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway.
Upon landing, the aircraft demonstrated good control, touching down on the runway at a speed of 135 knots and a distance of 290 meters. The threshold speed was also satisfactory at 137 knots, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. However, the touchdown rate was slightly below average at -1.5 meters per second, which may be a minor area for improvement.
One notable aspect of the landing was the misalignment of the runway touchdown position, which was off-center by 8.0 meters. This may be attributed to factors such as wind or pilot error. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 4°C and a gentle wind of 3 knots from 310°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 knots, while the headwind component was 3 knots, which may have contributed to the slight misalignment.
The total landing distance of 1,319 meters was within the acceptable range, accounting for approximately 49% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly off-center by 7.7 meters, which may be a minor issue that requires attention. Overall, the landing was successful, and the aircraft demonstrated good control and handling characteristics.
