Improve the pattern base leg turn
Bank angle in the pattern is conventionally kept to 20 to 30 degrees, and the base-to-final turn is where that convention earns its keep. Stall speed rises with bank because the wing must produce more lift in a turn. Roughly 7 per cent higher at 30 degrees, about 19 per cent at 45, and around 40 per cent at 60. At 65 kt on base you don't have much margin to spend steepening a turn to salvage an overshoot.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
Side view — the last 1,056 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,056 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 83 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in question was conducted in a Kodiak 100 aircraft. The taxiing process from the parking area to the runway took approximately 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The departure roll from runway 01 at PATK Talkeetna Airport was successful, with a takeoff distance of 411 meters, which accounted for 39% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was achieved at 90 knots.
The aircraft then entered a right-hand pattern from runway 01, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile in 39 seconds. The right-hand pattern crosswind leg was completed in 9 seconds, with a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The pattern downwind turn was executed at an angle of 45 degrees to the runway, with a distance of 3 nautical miles. The downwind leg itself was completed in 10 seconds, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The pattern base leg turn was performed at an angle of 87.9 degrees to the runway, with a distance of 1 nautical mile. The base leg was completed in 7 seconds, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The final turn was executed in 50 seconds, covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. The final approach to runway 01 was conducted from the southwest, at a heading of 27.0 degrees and an altitude of 247 feet above ground level, with a distance of 1 nautical mile.
The landing on runway 01 was successful, with a threshold height that was considered good. The threshold speed was also good, at 67 knots. The touchdown distance was 81 meters, which was considered good. However, the touchdown speed was a little fast, at 67 knots. The touchdown rate was smooth, at -141 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the runway rollout alignment was also perfect.
The local weather conditions during the flight were characterized by a temperature of 2 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 0 knots at 95 degrees. There was no crosswind or headwind. The total landing distance was 498 meters, which accounted for 47% of the runway length. The total flight distance was 10 nautical miles, taking approximately 8 minutes to complete, and the aircraft used 0 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Kodiak 100 aircraft successfully landed at PATK Talkeetna Airport, achieving a high score of 99.2%. The final approach to runway 01 was conducted from the southwest, with a heading of 27.0° at 1 nautical mile and 247 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft demonstrated good control and precision during the approach, ultimately landing safely on the runway.
The landing was executed with a threshold speed of 67 knots, which was considered good. The touchdown distance of 81 meters was also within acceptable limits. However, the touchdown speed of 67 knots was slightly faster than ideal, indicating that the pilot may have been able to flare the aircraft more effectively to achieve a smoother touchdown.
The touchdown rate of -141 feet per minute (fpm) was smooth, indicating that the aircraft was able to absorb the impact of touchdown without any significant shock or jolt. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, demonstrating the pilot's excellent control and precision during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 2°C and a wind speed of 0 knots at 95°. This resulted in a crosswind and headwind of 0 knots, making the landing even more challenging and impressive.
The total landing distance of 498 meters was 47% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft was able to stop quickly and efficiently after touchdown. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, demonstrating the pilot's ability to maintain control and precision even after touchdown.
Overall, the landing was a success, with the aircraft demonstrating excellent control, precision, and safety. The pilot's skills and experience were evident throughout the approach and landing, and the aircraft performed well under the given conditions.
