Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 4,978 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the full 4,978 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 173 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 16 at the Greater Binghamton/Edwin A Link field, also known as KBGM. The takeoff distance was 2,800 feet, which accounted for 42% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 142 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 63°F and winds of 2 knots at 269°. The crosswind was 2 knots, and the tailwind was 1 knot. After departing from KBGM, the enroute climb started 1 mile southeast of the airport, where the aircraft climbed from an altitude of 2,358 feet above sea level to 25,005 feet above sea level, an increase of 22,646 feet in 10 minutes, covering a distance of 58 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 2 miles north of Hammondsport, New York, and lasted for 34 minutes, covering a distance of 286 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent 6 miles northwest of Bay Port, Michigan, where it descended from 25,002 feet above sea level to 2,982 feet above sea level, a decrease of 22,020 feet in 14 minutes, covering a distance of 83 nautical miles.
Following the descent, the aircraft entered another level cruise phase, this time starting 5 miles northeast of Jennings, Michigan, and lasting for 6 minutes, covering a distance of 23 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 25 at KCAD Wexford County Airport was made from the northeast, heading 246.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,280 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 25 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 174 feet, which was good. However, the touchdown speed of 110 knots was slightly above the target, and the touchdown rate was hard at -413 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 10 feet from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 59°F and winds of 2 knots at 270°, with a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 2 knots.
The total landing distance was 2,154 feet, which accounted for 43% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking from the runway, which took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 457 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 76 minutes. The aircraft used 6,409 pounds of fuel during the flight.
Aircraft C750 successfully landed at KCAD Wexford County Airport, achieving a score of 97.1%. The final approach was conducted from the north east, heading 246.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,280 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 25, which has a length of 4,978 feet.
The threshold height was reported as good, but the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 111 knots. This indicates that the pilot may have been able to maintain a higher speed during the approach, but chose to reduce it slightly before touchdown. The touchdown distance was good at 174 feet, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's weight and the runway length.
However, the touchdown speed of 110 knots was a little fast, which may have contributed to the hard touchdown rate of -413 feet per minute (fpm). A hard touchdown rate can be uncomfortable for passengers and may also cause damage to the aircraft's landing gear. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 10 feet from the centreline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the pilot's approach path.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 59°F and a wind speed of 2 knots from 270°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 2 knots. These conditions would have made the landing relatively straightforward.
The total landing distance was 2,154 feet, which is 43% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft throughout the approach and landing. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain a stable and controlled descent during the landing.
Overall, the landing was successful, but there were a few areas for improvement, including reducing the touchdown speed and improving the touchdown rate.
