Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 4,265 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 221 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 36 at Winnipeg / James Armstrong Richardson International Airport, with a takeoff distance of 1,406 meters, which was 42% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 159 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of 2 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 4 knots at 40 degrees. The crosswind was 2 knots, and the headwind was 3 knots. As the aircraft took off, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead Winnipeg / James Armstrong Richardson International Airport. The climb took 12 minutes and covered a distance of 92 nautical miles, with the aircraft rising from 1,820 feet above sea level to 33,049 feet above sea level, an increase of 31,230 feet.
After the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, which started 7 miles southwest of Neepawa Airport. This phase of the flight lasted for 20 minutes and covered a distance of 450 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 20 miles east of Hanna, Alberta. The descent took 15 minutes and covered a distance of 104 nautical miles, with the aircraft decreasing in altitude from 33,635 feet above sea level to 4,925 feet above sea level, a decrease of 28,710 feet.
The final approach to runway 35R at Calgary International Airport was made from the south, with the aircraft heading 0.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,362 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 35R, which had a length of 4,265 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 148 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 219 meters, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 145 knots. The touchdown rate was hard at -484 feet per minute, but the runway touchdown alignment was very good.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of -10 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 4 knots at 30 degrees. The crosswind was 2 knots, and the headwind was 4 knots. The total landing distance was 1,359 meters, which was 32% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also very good. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking, which took 5 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 655 nautical miles, and the flight took 60 minutes. The aircraft used 4,743 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at Calgary International Airport (CYYC) on runway 35R. The final approach was initiated from the south, with the aircraft heading 0.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,362 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, which is a critical aspect of a safe landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 147 kt, registering at 148 kt. However, the touchdown distance of 219 meters was considered good, indicating that the aircraft was able to slow down effectively after touchdown. The touchdown speed of 145 kt was a little fast, which may have contributed to the hard touchdown rate of -484 feet per minute (fpm). Despite this, the runway touchdown alignment was very good, suggesting that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of -10°C and a wind speed of 4 kt from a direction of 30°. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 kt and a headwind of 4 kt, which may have affected the aircraft's performance during the landing. However, the total landing distance of 1,359 meters, which accounted for 32% of the runway length, was considered acceptable.
The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain its alignment with the runway after touchdown. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft demonstrating good control and stability throughout the approach and touchdown phases.
