Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,829 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,829 m of the 2,395 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 604 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A321, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Václav Havel Airport Prague, taking approximately 6 minutes to cover a distance of 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 30, with the aircraft lifting off at a speed of 154 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 14°C, with a wind speed of 11 knots blowing from 219°.
As the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude, it began its enroute climb, starting overhead the town of Dobroviz in the Czech Republic. The climb took 17 minutes to cover a distance of 89 nautical miles, with the aircraft rising from an altitude of 2,269 feet above sea level to 35,694 feet. The enroute level cruise phase began 1 mile west of Oberkotzau in Bavaria, Germany, lasting for 5 minutes and covering 32 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began its descent, starting 1 mile south-west of Mengersgereuth-Haemmern in Thuringia, Germany. The descent took 10 minutes to cover a distance of 64 nautical miles, with the aircraft dropping from an altitude of 36,023 feet to 13,954 feet. The enroute climb phase began again 2 miles north of Grebenau in Hessen, Germany, with the aircraft rising from 14,341 feet to 17,677 feet in just 2 minutes, covering a distance of 11 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise phase resumed overhead Schwalmstadt in Hessen, Germany, lasting for 7 minutes and covering 47 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 1 mile south-east of EDDJ Oeventrop Airfield Arnsberg in Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. The descent took 14 minutes to cover a distance of 49 nautical miles, with the aircraft dropping from an altitude of 17,766 feet to 1,431 feet.
The final approach to runway 23L at Düsseldorf Airport took place from the north-east, with the aircraft heading 233.0° at an altitude of 1,295 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing took place on the runway, with the aircraft touching down at a speed of 138 knots, which was slightly faster than the target speed. The touchdown point was 191 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.2 meters from the centreline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 15°C, with a wind speed of 12 knots blowing from 180°. The crosswind component was 9 knots, while the headwind component was 7 knots. The total landing distance was 1,751 meters, which was 73% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good, and the aircraft was able to taxi to the parking area in just 8 minutes, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
Overall, the flight covered a total distance of 301 nautical miles, taking 71 minutes to complete, and used 3,506 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A321 successfully landed on runway 23L at EDDL Düsseldorf Airport, achieving a score of 96.0%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north east, heading 233.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,295 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot maintained a good threshold height, which is a crucial aspect of a safe landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 137 kt, indicating a slight deviation from the ideal landing speed. However, the touchdown point was 191 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation. The touchdown speed of 138 kt was faster than the target speed, resulting in a firm touchdown rate of -304 feet per minute (fpm). This firm touchdown rate may have contributed to the slightly misaligned runway touchdown position, which was 3.2 meters off the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 12 kt from 180°. The crosswind component was 9 kt, while the headwind component was 7 kt. These conditions did not appear to significantly impact the landing, as the pilot was able to maintain control and alignment throughout the rollout.
The total landing distance of 1,751 meters was 73% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain control and steer the aircraft in the correct direction after touchdown. Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot's skills and experience were evident in the execution of the maneuver.
