Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 6,225 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 6,225 ft of the 8,504 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,957 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 18L at KDFW Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. The takeoff distance was 3,689 feet, which accounted for 27% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 152 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 76°F and a wind speed of 2 knots at 150°. The crosswind was 1 knot, and the headwind was also 1 knot. As the aircraft took off, it began its enroute climb, which started 2 miles northeast of Euless, Texas. The climb was from an altitude of 1,617 feet above sea level to 24,173 feet above sea level, an increase of 22,556 feet in 11 minutes, covering a distance of 71 nautical miles.
After the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 1 mile west of Tigerbird Field Waco, Texas. This phase lasted for 9 minutes and covered a distance of 66 nautical miles. The enroute descent phase began overhead Taylor Mun Taylor, Texas, and lasted for 21 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 24,210 feet above sea level to 2,107 feet above sea level, a decrease of 22,103 feet. The descent covered a distance of 82 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 13R at KSAT San Antonio International Airport was made from the northwest, heading 131.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,287 feet above ground level. The landing on the runway was successful, with a touchdown point 1,664 feet beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 135 knots, which was a little fast, and the touchdown rate was fair at -290 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 30 feet from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 77°F and a wind speed of 2 knots at 0°. The crosswind was 1 knot, and the tailwind was also 1 knot. The total landing distance was 6,031 feet, which accounted for 71% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 36 feet from the centerline. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
In total, the flight distance was 228 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 54 minutes. The aircraft used 5,339 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at San Antonio International Airport (KSAT) on runway 13R. The final approach was initiated from the northwest, heading 131.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,287 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a steady descent and touched down on the runway, with a threshold height slightly above the target at 58 feet agl.
The touchdown speed of 135 knots was a bit faster than the target, but still within a safe range. The touchdown rate of -290 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, indicating a relatively smooth landing. However, the touchdown point was 1,664 feet beyond the designated touchdown zone, which may indicate a slight over-shooting of the target.
The runway touchdown position was also slightly misaligned, deviating by 30 feet from the centerline. This may have been due to a combination of factors, including wind conditions and pilot control. The local weather at the time of landing was favorable, with a temperature of 77°F and a wind speed of 2 knots at 0°. The crosswind and tailwind components were minimal, at 1 knot each.
The total landing distance of 6,031 feet was 71% of the available runway length, which is a relatively safe margin. However, the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned, deviating by 36 feet from the centerline. This may indicate a slight loss of control during the rollout phase, but it did not appear to have any significant impact on the overall safety of the landing.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with a score of 87.0%. While there were some minor deviations from the target, the aircraft maintained a safe and controlled descent, and the pilots were able to bring the plane to a stop within a reasonable distance.
