A crosswind landing is a geometry problem. The air mass you're flying in is moving sideways across the runway, and you need your ground track down the centreline with your wheels aligned to it at the moment of contact. There are two techniques that will help, the crab and the sideslip.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
At the 500 ft gate: off the centreline and wings not level.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 7,184 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,621 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A321, then departed from runway 27 at Logan International Airport (KBOS) in Boston, Massachusetts. The takeoff distance was 4,186 feet, which was 60% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 157 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to cruising altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of a temperature of 70°F and winds of 2 knots at 200°. The crosswind was 2 knots, and the headwind was 1 knot. The enroute climb started overhead the Avco/Lowell Heliport in Lowell, Massachusetts, and the aircraft climbed from 1,047 feet above sea level to 38,263 feet above sea level, an increase of 37,215 feet in 22 minutes, covering a distance of 128 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 8 miles southeast of Mastic Beach, New York, and lasted for 16 minutes, covering a distance of 124 nautical miles. The enroute descent started overhead Radnor, Pennsylvania, and the aircraft descended from 38,279 feet above sea level to 192 feet above sea level, a decrease of 38,087 feet in 21 minutes, covering a distance of 105 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 19 at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (KDCA) was made from the north, heading 176.0° at 0 nautical miles and 162 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 19, which had a length of 7,184 feet. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 138 knots. However, the touchdown point was 256 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was a little fast at 130 knots. The touchdown rate was good at -164 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 21 feet from the centreline, and the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 29 feet from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 72°F and winds of 10 knots at 97°. The crosswind was 10 knots, and the headwind was 2 knots. The total landing distance was 3,375 feet, which was 47% of the runway length.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, which took 4 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 362 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 71 minutes. The aircraft used 6,109 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (KDCA) on runway 19, achieving a score of 96.3%. The final approach was initiated from the north, heading 176.0° at an altitude of 162 feet above ground level (agl) and 0 nautical miles from the runway. The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, indicating a stable approach.
Upon touchdown, the threshold speed was within the acceptable range at 138 knots. However, the touchdown speed of 130 knots was slightly faster than desired, which may have contributed to a slightly longer landing distance. The touchdown rate of -164 feet per minute (fpm) was considered good, indicating a controlled descent.
The touchdown point was located 256 feet beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively short distance. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 21 feet from the centreline, which may have affected the aircraft's rollout alignment. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 72°F and a wind speed of 10 knots at 97°.
The crosswind component was 10 knots, while the headwind component was 2 knots. The total landing distance of 3,375 feet was 47% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 29 feet from the centreline, which may have been a result of the initial touchdown position.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score. However, there were some minor deviations from the desired touchdown speed and rollout alignment, which may be addressed in future training exercises.
