MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,807 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 557 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 5 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 30 at LIPE Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,326 meters, which accounted for 62% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 152 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 24°C and winds of 2 knots at 91°. The crosswind was 1 knot, while the tailwind was 2 knots. The enroute climb started 1 mile south west of Calderara di Reno, Italy, and reached an altitude of 35,666 feet above sea level, an increase of 34,545 feet in 18 minutes, covering a distance of 110 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 1 mile east of Bronzolo, Italy, and lasted for 47 minutes, covering a distance of 337 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent 2 miles south west of Wetter, Germany, and descended from 36,586 feet to 4,920 feet above sea level, a decrease of 31,666 feet in 25 minutes, covering a distance of 37 nautical miles.
The enroute climb resumed 1 mile south of Wachtendonk, Germany, and reached an altitude of 10,100 feet above sea level, an increase of 5,233 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 13 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise started overhead Kaarst, Germany, and lasted for 18 minutes, covering a distance of 66 nautical miles.
The enroute descent began overhead Ruppach-Goldhausen, Germany, and descended from 10,102 feet to 3,097 feet above sea level, a decrease of 7,005 feet in 7 minutes, covering a distance of 15 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise started overhead Pleckhausen, Germany, and lasted for 3 minutes, covering a distance of 11 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 31R at EDDK Cologne Bonn Airport began from the south east, heading 318.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,391 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 31R was successful, with a touchdown point 137 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 134 knots, which was a little fast, and the touchdown rate was firm at -304 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned by 16.4 meters from the centreline, and the runway rollout alignment was misaligned by 17.6 meters from the centreline. The total landing distance was 1,064 meters, which accounted for 28% of the runway. The taxiing to the parking from the runway took 6 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 603 nautical miles, taking 138 minutes, and the aircraft used 5,947 kilograms of fuel.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed on runway 31R at EDDK Cologne Bonn Airport, but with some notable deviations from the ideal landing parameters. The final approach was initiated from the south east, heading 318.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,391 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on the runway, but the touchdown point was 137 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating a slight over-run.
The touchdown speed of 134 knots was slightly faster than the target speed, which could have contributed to the firm touchdown rate of -304 feet per minute (fpm). The threshold height at 73 feet agl was well above the target, suggesting that the aircraft was higher than desired at the point of touchdown. However, the threshold speed of 142 knots was within the acceptable range.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 23°C and a gentle headwind of 9 knots at 320°. The crosswind component was negligible, at 0 knots. The runway length of 3,807 meters was sufficient to accommodate the landing distance of 1,064 meters, which accounted for 28% of the runway.
Despite the successful landing, there were some issues with the alignment of the aircraft during the rollout. The runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned by 16.4 meters from the centerline, and the rollout alignment was also misaligned by 17.6 meters from the centerline. These deviations suggest that the pilot may have experienced some difficulty in maintaining a straight course during the landing roll.
Overall, the landing was considered satisfactory, with a score of 80.1%. However, there are areas for improvement, particularly in terms of maintaining a straight course during the rollout and achieving a more precise touchdown point.
