Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,441 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 618 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 5 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a TBM 850, then departed from runway 24 at ENAL Ålesund Airport, Vigra, with a takeoff distance of 700 meters, which accounted for 36% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 101 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 16°C, with a wind speed of 1 knot from a direction of 270°. There was no crosswind, but a headwind of 1 knot was present. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 2 miles southwest of ENAL Ålesund Airport, Vigra. The climb took 5 minutes and covered a distance of 25 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 1,043 feet above sea level to 4,287 feet above sea level, an increase of 3,244 feet.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 1 mile southwest of Volda and lasted for 2 minutes. During this period, the aircraft covered a distance of 11 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another climb phase, this time starting 4 miles west of Nordfjordeid. The climb took 2 minutes and covered a distance of 11 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 4,314 feet above sea level to 5,303 feet above sea level, an increase of 988 feet.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 10 miles southwest of ENSD Sandane Airport, Anda Sandane and lasted for 9 minutes. During this period, the aircraft covered a distance of 69 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, starting 3 miles north of Knarvik. The descent took 4 minutes and covered a distance of 15 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 4,860 feet above sea level to 1,452 feet above sea level, a decrease of 3,408 feet.
The final approach to runway 17 at ENBR Bergen Airport, Flesland was made from the north, with a heading of 170.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,283 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 17, which had a length of 2,441 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 70 knots. The touchdown point was 178 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 63 knots, which was considered good. The touchdown rate was firm at -363 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 8.0 meters. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 15°C, with a wind speed of 1 knot from a direction of 270°. There was a crosswind of 1 knot, but no headwind. The total landing distance was 739 meters, which accounted for 30% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned from the centerline by 8.4 meters.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 139 nautical miles, which was covered in 28 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 124 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The TBM 850 aircraft successfully landed at ENBR Bergen Airport, Flesland, with a score of 90.5%. The final approach was initiated from the north, heading 170.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,283 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 17, which has a length of 2,441 meters.
The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was maintained at 70 knots, indicating a well-executed approach. The touchdown point was 178 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is slightly off-center but not excessively so. The touchdown speed of 63 knots was also within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -363 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, suggesting a controlled descent.
However, there were some minor issues with the landing. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 8.0 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach or during the landing roll. Additionally, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 8.4 meters from the centerline, which could have been caused by a combination of factors, including the initial touchdown position and the aircraft's response to the brakes.
The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270°. This resulted in a negligible crosswind component and a headwind of 0 knots. The total landing distance of 739 meters was 30% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight.
Overall, the landing was successful, but there were some minor deviations from the ideal approach and landing. These deviations were not significant enough to compromise the safety of the aircraft or its occupants, but they do highlight areas for improvement in terms of approach and landing technique.
