Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
At the 500 ft gate: no landing flap set and off the centreline.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,984 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 537 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 18 at EDFB Reichelsheim Airfield, where the Bonanza G36 aircraft took off with a takeoff distance of 566 meters, which accounted for 46% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 81 knots. At the time of departure, the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 4 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 10 knots at a direction of 61 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 9 knots and a tailwind of 4 knots.
As the aircraft climbed, it started its enroute climb overhead Florstadt, Hessen, Germany, at an altitude of 1,552 feet above sea level. The climb was steep, with an increase of 1,067 feet in just 2 minutes, covering a distance of 5 nautical miles. The aircraft then leveled off and entered a cruise phase, which lasted for 2 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles, 1 mile east of Karben, Hessen, Germany.
The enroute descent started overhead Bad Vilbel, Hessen, Germany, where the aircraft descended from an altitude of 2,814 feet above sea level to 1,393 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,422 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 9 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 25L at EDDF Frankfurt Airport, approaching from the east at a heading of 253.0 degrees, 2 nautical miles from the runway and at an altitude of 1,031 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 25L at EDDF Frankfurt Airport was successful, with a touchdown distance of 474 meters, which was good. The touchdown speed was 70 knots, and the touchdown rate was smooth at -109 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 11.3 meters. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 4 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 12 knots at a direction of 69 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 0 knots and a tailwind of 12 knots.
The total landing distance was 851 meters, which accounted for 21% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned from the centreline by 11.5 meters. The total flight distance was 22 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 9 minutes. The aircraft used 7 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Bonanza G36 aircraft successfully landed on runway 25L at Frankfurt Airport (EDDF) with a score of 92.8%. The final approach was initiated from the east, heading 253.0° at 2 nautical miles and 1,031 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on the runway, which has a length of 3,984 meters.
The threshold height was reported as good, but the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 83 knots. However, the touchdown distance of 474 meters was considered good, and the touchdown speed of 70 knots was also within acceptable limits. The touchdown rate was smooth at -109 feet per minute (fpm), indicating a controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 4°C and a wind speed of 12 knots from a direction of 69°. This resulted in a crosswind of 0 knots and a tailwind of 12 knots. Despite the tailwind, the aircraft's landing performance was satisfactory.
However, there were some minor issues with the landing. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 11.3 meters from the centerline, and the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 11.5 meters from the centerline. These deviations from the centerline may have been due to the tailwind or other factors affecting the aircraft's control during the landing.
Overall, the Bonanza G36 aircraft demonstrated good landing performance, with a smooth touchdown and a short touchdown distance. However, the minor deviations from the centerline during the rollout may require further attention to ensure optimal landing performance in the future.
