Improve the taxi
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 6,207 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,447 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in question took place at Brisbane International Airport (YBBN), where the aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, was initially taxiing from its parking spot to the runway, a journey that took 21 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles (nm). Upon departing from runway 19L, the aircraft successfully cleared the takeoff point, traveling a distance of 5,715 feet with a 50% utilization of the runway, and achieved a liftoff speed of 162 knots.
The takeoff was achieved under relatively calm local weather conditions, with a temperature of 71°F and winds blowing at 5 knots from 320 degrees, resulting in a negligible crosswind component. Following takeoff, the aircraft began its initial enroute climb from 1 mile north of Pinkenba, steadily increasing its altitude from 1,035 feet above sea level (asl) to 8,123 ft asl over a distance of 11 nm and a time frame of 3 minutes, representing a remarkable climb of 7,088 feet.
As the flight progressed, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, first over Rochedale South and lasting 5 minutes, covering an additional 22 nm. Subsequently, the aircraft began another enroute climb, this time from a point 8 miles southeast of Russell Island, and steadily rose from 8,109 ft asl to 37,341 ft asl over a period of 106 nm and 17 minutes, achieving a notable increase of 29,232 feet.
The next phase of the enroute level cruise lasted 65 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a significant distance of 558 nm, traversing the ocean. Prior to reaching its destination, the aircraft began its initial descent at a point Latitude: -28.9263038, Longitude: 166.0429725, gradually reducing its altitude from 37,513 ft asl to 2,262 ft asl over a distance of 111 nm and a time frame of 15 minutes, a notable decrease of 35,250 feet.
Upon reaching a lower altitude, the aircraft entered yet another enroute level cruise phase, lasting a brief 2 minutes and covering an additional 7 nm. Following this final approach, the aircraft navigated a final approach to runway 29 at Norfolk Island International Airport (YSNF) from the southeast, at an altitude of 4 nm and 1,229 ft above ground level (agl) before executing a go-around at an altitude of 232 ft agl due to reasons that were not specified.
The aircraft then executed a successful landing on runway 29, with a touchdown speed slightly higher than the target at 143 kt. The touchdown distance of 1,455 ft was deemed acceptable, while the touchdown speed of 137 kt was found to be a tad excessive. During this time, the local weather condition was a temperature of 64°F and winds blowing at 16 knots from 30 degrees, resulting in a 16-knot crosswind and a 1-knot headwind.
Upon completing the landing, the aircraft rolled out in very good alignment on the runway, eventually taxiing to the parking area, a journey that took 4 minutes and covered a minimal distance of less than 1 nm. The aircraft completed a total distance of 833 nm, covering the entire distance in 143 minutes while consuming 12,347 pounds of fuel.
The Boeing 737-800 landed at YSNF Norfolk Island International Airport with a high level of precision and control. The pilot managed to guide the aircraft onto the runway with a score of 96.7%, indicating a well-executed approach and landing sequence. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the southeast, heading 296.0 °, at a distance of 4 nautical miles (nm) and an altitude of 1,229 feet above ground level (agl).
The pilot's ability to maintain good control and stability during the final approach is evident in the landing data. The threshold speed was slightly above the target speed at 143 knots, which is a relatively small deviation. This suggests that the pilot had the aircraft's speed under control and was able to make any necessary adjustments to ensure a smooth approach.
The touchdown distance of 1,455 feet was within acceptable limits, and the touchdown speed of 137 knots was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate of -302 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, indicating a safe and controlled descent. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 23 feet from the centreline, but this did not appear to have any significant impact on the subsequent rollout.
The local weather conditions were mild, with a temperature of 64 °F and a wind speed of 16 knots at 30 °. While there was a moderate crosswind, the pilot was able to compensate for this and maintain control of the aircraft. The headwind was minimal, with a speed of only 1 knot.
The total landing distance of 4,291 feet was 69% of the available runway length, which is an acceptable ratio. This suggests that the pilot had enough room to safely stop the aircraft after touchdown. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the subsequent rollout and avoid any skidding or loss of alignment.
Overall, this landing was executed with a high level of precision and control, demonstrating the pilot's expertise and skill in navigating the aircraft safely to the runway.
