MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,561 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,561 m of the 3,671 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 470 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 12 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A321, then departed from runway 21R at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, with a takeoff distance of 1,292 meters, which was 50% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 164 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions of 4°C temperature and a wind speed of 4 knots at 199 degrees. The crosswind component was 1 knot, while the headwind component was 4 knots. After departing from Detroit, the aircraft began its enroute climb, which started overhead the airport and took the aircraft from an altitude of 1,640 feet above sea level to 34,255 feet above sea level, an increase of 32,614 feet in 15 minutes. During this climb, the aircraft covered a distance of 138 nautical miles.
Once the aircraft reached its cruising altitude, it began its level cruise, which started 2 miles west of the Andy Barnhart Memorial Airport in New Carlisle, Ohio. This phase of the flight lasted for 25 minutes and covered a distance of 597 nautical miles. After completing the cruise, the aircraft started its enroute descent, which began 2 miles northeast of the Clark Field in Raiford, Florida. The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 34,403 feet above sea level to 1,448 feet above sea level, a decrease of 32,955 feet in 18 minutes, covering a distance of 113 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its final approach to runway 36L at Orlando International Airport from the south, heading 358.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,340 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 16°C temperature and a wind speed of 5 knots at 0 degrees. The crosswind component was 0 knots, while the headwind component was 5 knots.
The aircraft landed on runway 36L, which had a length of 3,671 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 142 knots. The touchdown point was 50 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 137 knots, which was good. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -231 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.6 meters from the centerline. The total landing distance was 1,476 meters, which was 40% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking from the runway, which took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 859 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 82 minutes. The aircraft used 6,276 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at KMCO Orlando International Airport, achieving a high score of 98.5%. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the south, heading 358.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,340 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with precision, and the aircraft landed smoothly on runway 36L, which has a length of 3,671 meters.
The threshold height was good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct altitude as it approached the runway. The threshold speed of 142 knots was also within the acceptable range, demonstrating the pilot's ability to control the aircraft's speed during the landing phase. The touchdown point was 50 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation. The touchdown speed of 137 knots was good, indicating that the aircraft was able to touch down at a safe speed.
However, the touchdown rate of -231 feet per minute (fpm) was only fair, suggesting that the aircraft may have experienced a slightly higher-than-desired rate of descent during the landing phase. Additionally, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.6 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a minor deviation in the aircraft's alignment during the final approach.
The local weather conditions were favorable for the landing, with a temperature of 16°C and a wind speed of 5 knots at 0°. There was no crosswind, and the aircraft experienced a headwind of 5 knots, which may have helped to stabilize the aircraft during the landing phase. The total landing distance of 1,476 meters was 40% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight.
The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase and align it with the centerline of the runway. Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot demonstrated good skills and control during the final approach and landing phases.
