Improve the pattern downwind leg
The 45-degrees-behind-the-wing cue assumes you can turn your head and use peripheral vision. Downwind spacing cues like "put the wingtip halfway up the strut" assume a fixed, known eyepoint. Neither survives a monitor unmodified. If you fly on a fixed monitor, stop pretending and fly a numbers-based circuit.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,490 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 606 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Groningen Airport Eelde, the Carenado T-34 Bravo lifted off runway 23 after a takeoff distance of 362 meters, representing 15% of the available runway length. The aircraft achieved liftoff speed of 73 knots, meeting the expected performance. Local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and a light wind of 1 knot from 270 degrees, resulting in a negligible crosswind and headwind component.
As the aircraft entered the left-hand traffic pattern, it demonstrated a swift and precise turn, completing the entry maneuver in less than 1 nautical mile in 13 seconds. The subsequent crosswind turn was executed in 21 seconds, showcasing the aircraft's agility. The pattern downwind turn was executed at an angle of 80.6 degrees to the runway, while the downwind leg covered a distance of 2 nautical miles in 65 seconds. The base leg turn was completed at an angle of 28.2 degrees, setting the aircraft up for a precise final approach.
The final approach was initiated from the north-east, heading 232.0 degrees at 0 nautical miles and 97 feet above ground level. The aircraft touched down on runway 23, which had a length of 2,492 meters, at a speed of 51 knots. The touchdown point was 167 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown rate was a perfect -46 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was also spot on, indicating a well-executed landing. The total flight distance was 6 nautical miles, covering a distance of 4 nautical miles in 4 minutes, and the aircraft consumed 1 kilogram of fuel during the flight.
The aircraft touched down on runway 23 at EHGG Groningen Airport Eelde with a good threshold height, allowing for a smooth transition from the approach phase to the touchdown phase. The threshold speed was slightly above the target, registering at 77 kt, but still within acceptable limits. The aircraft maintained a steady descent, touching down at a speed of 51 kt, which was well within the desired range. The touchdown rate of -46 fpm was perfect, indicating a controlled and stable touchdown.
The aircraft's centreline alignment was perfect, with the touchdown point located 167 m beyond the touchdown zone. This slight deviation from the ideal touchdown point was not significant enough to impact the overall performance of the landing. The runway's length of 2,492 m provided ample space for the aircraft to decelerate and come to a stop. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 15 °C and a wind speed of 1 kt at 270 °, contributed to a stable and predictable approach.
The overall performance of the landing was excellent, with a score of 97.7%. The approach quality was good, with a steady and controlled descent. The touchdown characteristics were also good, with a perfect touchdown rate and centreline alignment. The rollout phase was smooth and controlled, with the aircraft coming to a stop within a safe distance from the runway's end. Overall, the landing was a textbook example of a well-executed approach and touchdown.
