Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
At the 500 ft gate: off the runway's 3° glideslope and off the centreline.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,480 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 308 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The 1.69 G arrival is the firm side of smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from ETSN Neuburg Air Base, the aircraft began its taxiing process from the parking area to the runway, taking approximately 7 minutes to cover a distance of 5 nautical miles. Upon reaching the runway, the aircraft initiated its departure roll on runway 09, utilizing 758 meters, or 31% of the runway's length, to achieve liftoff at a speed of 178 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure featured a temperature of 30°C, with a gentle wind of 6 knots at a direction of 69°, resulting in a 2-knot crosswind and a 5-knot headwind.
As the aircraft transitioned into the enroute climb phase, it began its ascent from 1,659 feet above sea level to 15,874 feet, an increase of 14,215 feet in just 3 minutes, covering a distance of 25 nautical miles. This climb phase was followed by a series of enroute descents, with the aircraft descending from 16,016 feet to 3,534 feet in 3 minutes, covering 27 nautical miles, and then climbing from 3,621 feet to 12,606 feet in 2 minutes, covering 23 nautical miles. The final descent phase saw the aircraft descend from 13,613 feet to 1,839 feet in 3 minutes, covering 42 nautical miles. Throughout these phases, the aircraft demonstrated a high degree of maneuverability and control.
Upon approaching runway 09 at ETSN Neuburg Air Base from the west, the aircraft initiated a go-around at an altitude of 46 feet above ground level, before successfully landing on the runway. The touchdown point was 216 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 180 knots and a touchdown rate of -872 feet per minute, indicating a heavy touchdown. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.3 meters from the centerline. The total landing distance was 1,748 meters, or 70% of the runway's length, with a runway rollout alignment that was very good. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking approximately 7 minutes to cover a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 169 nautical miles, with a total flight time of 23 minutes and a fuel consumption of 748 kilograms.
The final approach to runway 09 at ETSN Neuburg Air Base from the west was initiated at 1 nm and 519 ft above ground level, heading 89.0°. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a good threshold height of 61 ft above ground level. However, the threshold speed of 187 kt was slightly above the target, indicating a slight over-control during the flare.
The aircraft touched down 216 m beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 180 kt, which was within the acceptable range. However, the touchdown rate was very heavy at -872 fpm, indicating a significant deceleration upon touchdown. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.3 m from the centreline, which may have contributed to the heavy touchdown rate. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 36 °C and a headwind of 8 kt, may have also played a role in the landing performance.
The total landing distance of 1,748 m was 70% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating a smooth and controlled deceleration after touchdown. Overall, the landing performance was satisfactory, with a score of 85.2%. However, there is room for improvement in terms of approach speed control and touchdown rate management.
