Work on the flare
See Arrival Landing
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,945 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,945 m of the 3,191 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 664 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 777-300, then departed from runway 23 at LPMA Madeira International Airport Cristiano Ronaldo. The takeoff distance was 888 meters, which accounted for 36% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 162 knots, and the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 17 degrees Celsius, a wind speed of 1 knot at 15 degrees, with a slight tailwind of 1 knot.
As the aircraft climbed to its cruising altitude, it first leveled off at 35,992 feet above sea level, having ascended from 975 feet in 15 minutes and covering a distance of 113 nautical miles. This enroute level cruise lasted for 69 minutes and covered a further 567 nautical miles, with the aircraft flying 71 miles northeast of LPPS Porto Santo Airport Vila Baleira. The aircraft then began another climb, this time from 36,002 feet to 37,981 feet in just 3 minutes, covering a distance of 29 nautical miles. Following this, the aircraft entered another level cruise, lasting 86 minutes and covering 709 nautical miles, with the aircraft flying 2 miles east of Villavieja de Yeltes.
As the flight continued, the aircraft began its descent from 38,000 feet to 1,288 feet above sea level in 22 minutes, covering a distance of 128 nautical miles. The descent took place overhead Lezennes in Hauts-de-France, France. The final approach to runway 06 at EHAM Amsterdam Airport Schiphol was made from the southwest, with the aircraft heading 58.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,286 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 06 at EHAM Amsterdam Airport Schiphol was successful, with the aircraft touching down 250 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was a little fast at 142 knots, but the touchdown rate was fair at -258 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the runway rollout alignment was also perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 5 degrees Celsius, a wind speed of 4 knots at 130 degrees, with a crosswind of 4 knots and a headwind of 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 1,866 meters, which accounted for 58% of the runway. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 5 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,556 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 208 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 24,801 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 777-300 aircraft successfully landed at EHAM Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, achieving a score of 95.1%. The final approach to runway 06 was conducted from the southwest, heading 58.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,286 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway, with the threshold height being slightly above the target at 55 feet agl. However, the threshold speed was satisfactory at 145 knots, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The touchdown point was located 250 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which may be considered a minor deviation.
The touchdown speed of 142 knots was slightly faster than the ideal speed, which could be attributed to the aircraft's momentum and the pilot's decision to touch down at that speed. Nevertheless, the touchdown rate of -258 feet per minute (fpm) was deemed fair, suggesting a relatively smooth and controlled touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 5°C and a wind speed of 4 knots from a direction of 130°. The crosswind component was 4 knots, while the headwind component was 1 knot. These conditions did not appear to significantly impact the landing, as the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The total landing distance of 1,866 meters was 58% of the available runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, indicating that the aircraft was well under control during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score of 95.1%. The minor deviations in touchdown point and speed were not significant enough to impact the overall performance of the landing.
