Flight Score
Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
At the 1,000 ft gate: speed 35 kt FAST on the reference speed of 113 kt.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,706 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,706 m of the 1,921 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 711 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from DeKalb Peachtree Airport, KPDK, the Cessna Longitude began its journey with a taxiing period of 17 minutes, covering 3 nautical miles to reach the runway. Runway 21L was selected for departure, and the aircraft accelerated down the 690-meter stretch, taking 45% of the runway to reach liftoff speed of 149 knots. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 27°C and a 16-knot headwind.
As the aircraft climbed away from KPDK, it transitioned into an enroute climb, reaching an altitude of 5,519 feet above sea level in just 1 minute, covering 4 nautical miles. The climb continued in stages, with the aircraft reaching a cruising altitude of 42,857 feet above sea level after a series of climbs and descents. The enroute level cruise phase lasted for 175 minutes, covering a significant distance of 1,146 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, gradually losing altitude as it approached its destination.
The final approach to runway 01 at Jackson Hole Airport, KJAC, was executed from the south, with the aircraft aligning with the runway at 4 nautical miles and 1,315 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with the aircraft touching down 298 meters beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 97 knots. The touchdown rate was excellent at -56 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. The total landing distance was 1,628 meters, covering 85% of the runway. After a short taxiing period of 2 minutes, the aircraft came to a stop, having completed a total flight distance of 1,425 nautical miles, using 3,314 kilograms of fuel in the process.
The final approach to runway 01 at KJAC Jackson Hole Airport from the south was initiated at 4 nm and 1,315 ft above ground level, heading 19.0°. The approach quality was satisfactory, with the threshold height at 58 ft above ground level being slightly above the target. The aircraft's speed at threshold was well above the target, reaching 120 kt.
As the aircraft touched down 298 m beyond the touchdown zone, the touchdown speed of 97 kt was within acceptable limits, and the touchdown rate of -56 fpm was excellent. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating a high degree of control and precision during the landing. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 11 °C and wind at 10 kt from 169°, resulted in a crosswind of 5 kt and a tailwind of 9 kt.
The total landing distance of 1,628 m was 85% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance. However, the runway rollout alignment was misaligned by 20.7 m from the centreline, which may have been due to factors such as wind or pilot error. Overall, the landing performance scored 78.5%, reflecting a good but not exceptional landing.
