Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 500 ft gate: sink rate above what the glideslope needed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,201 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 635 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 02 at RPLC Clark International Airport / Clark Air Base. The Airbus A320 took off after a distance of 2,587 meters, which is 81% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 159 knots. At the time of departure, the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 33 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 12 knots at a direction of 40 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 4 knots and a headwind of 11 knots.
As the aircraft climbed, it started its enroute climb overhead Mabalacat City in Central Luzon, Philippines. The climb began at an altitude of 1,454 feet above sea level and reached 2,408 feet above sea level, an increase of 954 feet in just 1 minute. During this climb, the aircraft covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 5 minutes and covered a distance of 13 nautical miles. This phase took place 2 miles northeast of Mabalacat City.
The final approach to runway 02 at RPLC Clark International Airport / Clark Air Base was initiated from the south, with the aircraft heading at an angle of 21.0 degrees at a distance of 3 nautical miles from the runway. However, the crew decided to execute a go-around at an altitude of 186 feet above ground level. The aircraft then landed on runway 02, which has a length of 3,201 meters. The threshold height at 76 feet above ground level was well above the target, and the threshold speed was good at 138 knots.
The touchdown point was 203 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 130 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -261 feet per minute. Additionally, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.2 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 17 degrees Celsius.
The total flight distance was 41 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 14 minutes. The aircraft used 627 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 aircraft successfully landed at RPLC Clark International Airport / Clark Air Base, achieving a score of 87.2%. The final approach to runway 02 was initiated from the south, with a heading of 21.0° at a distance of 3 nautical miles and an altitude of 834 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on runway 02, which has a length of 3,201 meters. The threshold height at 76 feet agl was found to be well above the target, indicating a safe margin for the aircraft to touch down. The threshold speed was also satisfactory at 138 knots, demonstrating a controlled approach.
However, the touchdown point was located 203 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which may indicate a slight deviation from the intended landing path. The touchdown speed of 130 knots was slightly faster than the desired speed, which could have contributed to the deviation. The touchdown rate of -261 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, suggesting a relatively smooth landing.
Additionally, the runway touchdown position was found to be slightly misaligned by 4.2 meters from the centerline, which may have been caused by a slight deviation in the aircraft's approach path. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 17°C, which did not appear to have any significant impact on the landing.
Overall, while the landing was successful, there were some minor deviations from the desired parameters, which may be addressed in future training exercises to improve the aircraft's performance and safety.
