See Arrival Landing
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 300 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
At the 300 ft gate: sink rate above what the glideslope needed, off the runway's 3° glideslope and off the centreline.
Side view — the last 1,230 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,230 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 676 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 36 at EDFB Reichelsheim Airfield, a small airfield in Germany. The Cessna Skyhawk aircraft accelerated down the 585-meter runway, covering 48% of its length, before lifting off into the air at a speed of 76 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were characterized by a temperature of 5°C and a gentle wind blowing at 6 knots from a direction of 92°, resulting in a crosswind of 6 knots and no headwind.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airfield, it began to ascend from an initial altitude of 557 feet above sea level to a height of 1,672 feet, a gain of 1,115 feet over a distance of 3 nautical miles in just 2 minutes. This initial climb phase took the aircraft over the town of Reichelsheim in the state of Hessen, Germany. Following this, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, maintaining a steady altitude of 1,672 feet as it flew over the nearby town of Florstadt, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles in 2 minutes.
The aircraft then began another climb phase, this time ascending from 1,601 feet to 2,112 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. This climb phase also took the aircraft over the town of Reichelsheim. After reaching its maximum altitude, the aircraft began its descent, starting 1 mile west of Florstadt and descending from 2,118 feet to 970 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, this time maintaining a steady altitude of 1,672 feet as it flew over the town of Reichelsheim, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile in 3 minutes. Following this, the aircraft began its final approach to runway 36 at EDFB Reichelsheim Airfield, flying from the south at a heading of 355.0° and an altitude of 127 feet above ground level.
The landing was made on runway 36, which was 1,230 meters long. However, the aircraft touched down at a speed of 73 knots, which was too fast, and the touchdown point was located very far down the runway, using more than 50% of the available runway. The touchdown rate was also hard, at -411 feet per minute. Additionally, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 5.2 meters.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 4°C and a gentle wind blowing at 6 knots from a direction of 92°, resulting in a crosswind of 6 knots and no headwind. The total landing distance was 1,149 meters, which was 93% of the available runway. Despite the challenging landing, the runway rollout alignment was very good.
In total, the flight covered a distance of 11 nautical miles and took 12 minutes to complete, using 5 kilograms of fuel.
The Cessna Skyhawk aircraft has successfully landed at EDFB Reichelsheim Airfield, but the landing was not without its issues. The final approach to runway 36 from the south was initiated at an altitude of 127 feet above ground level (agl) and a distance of 0 nautical miles from the runway. The aircraft was heading 355.0° at the time of the approach.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway, but the touchdown point was excessively far down the runway, using more than 50% of the available runway length. This indicates that the pilot may have been unable to slow the aircraft down sufficiently before reaching the runway threshold. The touchdown speed of 73 knots was also too fast, which contributed to the hard touchdown rate of -411 feet per minute (fpm).
The threshold height at 238 feet agl was also excessively above the target, suggesting that the pilot may have been unable to maintain a stable approach path. Furthermore, the threshold speed was well above the target at 71 knots, which may have been a result of the pilot's inability to slow the aircraft down sufficiently.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 4°C and a wind speed of 6 knots from 92°. This suggests that the wind was not a significant factor in the landing, and the pilot should have been able to maintain a stable approach path.
Despite the issues with the landing, the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase. However, the total landing distance of 1,149 meters was 93% of the available runway length, which is a concern. This suggests that the pilot may need to work on improving their landing technique to reduce the landing distance and touchdown speed.
Overall, while the Cessna Skyhawk aircraft was able to land safely at EDFB Reichelsheim Airfield, the landing was not without its issues. The pilot will need to work on improving their landing technique to reduce the landing distance and touchdown speed, and to maintain a stable approach path.
