Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 5,014 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 906 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a short taxiing period from the parking to the runway, taking approximately 1 minute and covering less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Cessna CJ4 Citation, then departed from runway 03 at KFOE Topeka Regional Airport. The takeoff distance was 2,348 feet, which accounted for 34% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 166 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 65°F and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270°. The crosswind and tailwind components were both 1 knot. The aircraft began its enroute climb 1 mile west of 90KS Sunset Strip Airpark, Topeka, Kansas, and ascended from 1,987 feet above sea level to 19,980 feet above sea level, an increase of 17,992 feet, in 8 minutes and covering 31 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started overhead KOWI Ottawa Municipal Airport, Ottawa, Kansas, and lasted for 47 minutes, covering 309 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent 13 miles north of 4F8 Wilson Stephens, Arkansas, and descended from 19,996 feet above sea level to 2,586 feet above sea level, a decrease of 17,410 feet, in 12 minutes and covering 51 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise resumed 9 miles east of Cotton Valley, Louisiana, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering 7 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 19 at KMNE Minden-Webster was made from the north, heading 196.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,250 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 19 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 905 feet, which was good. However, the touchdown speed of 102 knots was fast, and the touchdown rate of -213 feet per minute was fair. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 17 feet from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 62°F and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270°. The crosswind component was 1 knot, and the headwind component was 0 knots. The total landing distance was 2,040 feet, which accounted for 41% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took less than 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 405 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 75 minutes. Notably, the aircraft used 0 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Cessna CJ4 Citation successfully landed at KMNE Minden-Webster, achieving a score of 95.8%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north, heading 196.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,250 feet above ground level (agl). The landing was executed on runway 19, which has a length of 5,014 feet.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold height was deemed good, but the threshold speed was slightly too high at 112 knots. However, the touchdown distance of 905 feet was considered good, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The touchdown speed of 102 knots was slightly faster than ideal, resulting in a fair touchdown rate of -213 feet per minute (fpm).
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 17 feet, which may have been due to factors such as wind or pilot error. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 62°F and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270°, resulting in a negligible crosswind and headwind.
The total landing distance of 2,040 feet was 41% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was well under control during the landing roll. Overall, the landing was successful, but there were some minor issues with speed and alignment that could be addressed in future flights.
