Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,395 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 236 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A320, then departed from runway 12 at GCXO Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,850 meters, which is 55% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 160 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were characterized by a temperature of 21 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 150 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 4 knots and a headwind of 5 knots. The aircraft began its enroute climb overhead La Laguna, a town in the Canary Islands, Spain. During this climb, the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 2,989 feet above sea level to 7,002 feet above sea level, an increase of 4,013 feet in just 2 minutes, covering a distance of 10 nautical miles.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 5 miles east of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This phase lasted for 3 minutes and covered a distance of 14 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, starting 2 miles northeast of Tegueste. During this descent, the aircraft descended from an altitude of 7,005 feet above sea level to 4,008 feet above sea level, a decrease of 2,997 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 14 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 10 miles northwest of Tacoronte. This phase lasted for 6 minutes and covered a distance of 18 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 12 at GCXO Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna Airport was made from the west, heading 111.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,031 feet above ground level and a distance of 3 nautical miles from the runway.
The landing on runway 12 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 233 meters, which is a good result. However, the touchdown speed of 136 knots was a little fast, and the touchdown rate was very hard at -587 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.0 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 18 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 5 knots from a direction of 150 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 4 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,041 meters, which is 31% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 62 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 25 minutes. The aircraft used 897 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna Airport, achieving a high score of 94.7%. The aircraft approached the runway from the west, heading 111.0° at a distance of 3 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,031 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with good control, and the aircraft touched down on runway 12, which has a length of 3,395 meters.
The threshold height was satisfactory, and the threshold speed of 138 knots was also within the acceptable range. However, the touchdown speed of 136 knots was slightly higher than desired, indicating that the aircraft may have been slightly fast on touchdown. The touchdown rate of -587 feet per minute (fpm) was very hard, which could be a concern for the aircraft's landing gear and overall safety.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.0 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's approach path. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 18°C and a gentle wind of 5 knots at 150°. The crosswind component was minimal at 3 knots, while the headwind component was 4 knots, which helped to stabilize the aircraft during the approach.
The total landing distance of 1,041 meters was 31% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft's brakes were applied smoothly and effectively, and the aircraft was able to come to a stop without any issues. Overall, the landing was successful, and the aircraft was able to touch down safely on the runway.
