Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,429 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 287 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took approximately 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-900, then departed from runway 07L at KDAB Daytona Beach International Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,065 meters, which accounted for 36% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 149 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 14 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 4 knots from a direction of 350 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 1 knot. The aircraft began its enroute climb approximately 1 mile southwest of Daytona Beach, Florida, and ascended from an altitude of 1,066 feet above sea level to 37,484 feet above sea level, an increase of 36,418 feet, in 32 minutes and covering a distance of 220 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise phase started 5 miles northwest of James Island, South Carolina, and lasted for 74 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 937 nautical miles. The descent phase began 17 miles southeast of CCN2 Grand Manan Airport, Grand Manan, New Brunswick/Nouveau-Brunswick, Canada, and the aircraft descended from 37,124 feet above sea level to 1,372 feet above sea level, a decrease of 35,752 feet, in 12 minutes and covering a distance of 76 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 26 at CYZX CFB Greenwood was made from the northeast, heading 244.0 degrees, at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,274 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 26, which had a length of 2,429 meters, was successful, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 141 knots. The touchdown distance was 288 meters, which was 33% of the runway length, and the touchdown speed was 135 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -206 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of -12 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 1 knot from a direction of 200 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 1 knot. The total landing distance was 807 meters, and the runway rollout alignment was perfect. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking area took less than 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 1,240 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 123 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 7,942 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-900 aircraft successfully landed at CYZX CFB Greenwood, demonstrating a high level of proficiency in its approach and landing procedures. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the north-east, heading 244.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,274 feet above ground level (agl).
The final approach to runway 26 was executed with precision, with the aircraft maintaining a good threshold height and speed. The threshold speed of 141 knots was within the acceptable range, indicating that the pilot had effectively managed the aircraft's descent and speed. The touchdown distance of 288 meters was also satisfactory, suggesting that the pilot had maintained control of the aircraft throughout the landing process.
However, there was a slight deviation from the ideal touchdown speed, which was recorded at 135 knots. This was slightly faster than the recommended speed, but it did not significantly impact the overall landing performance. The touchdown rate of -206 feet per minute (fpm) was fair, indicating that the pilot had managed to slow the aircraft down effectively after touchdown.
The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, demonstrating the pilot's skill and attention to detail in navigating the aircraft to the centerline of the runway. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of -12°C and a wind speed of 1 knot from 200°, did not pose any significant challenges to the landing.
The total landing distance of 807 meters was 33% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. This suggests that the pilot had effectively managed the aircraft's descent and speed to achieve a smooth and controlled landing. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, indicating that the pilot had maintained control of the aircraft throughout the landing process and had successfully brought it to a stop.
Overall, the landing of the Boeing 737-900 at CYZX CFB Greenwood was a successful and well-executed procedure, demonstrating the pilot's skill and proficiency in navigating the aircraft to a safe and controlled touchdown.
