Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
At the 500 ft gate: off the centreline.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 4,001 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 762 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a TBM 930, then departed from runway 35 at UBBB Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku, Azerbaijan. The takeoff distance was 1,334 meters, which accounted for 41% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 104 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of the airport, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 5°C and winds of 15 knots at 320°. The crosswind was 9 knots, while the headwind was 12 knots. The enroute climb started 1 mile north of the airport and reached an altitude of 1,460 feet above sea level, an increase of 759 feet in just 1 minute, covering a distance of 1 nautical mile.
The enroute level cruise began 1 mile northwest of the airport and lasted for 6 minutes, covering a distance of 5 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent 2 miles north of Hovsan, Baku City, Azerbaijan, and descended from 1,840 feet to 496 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,344 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 34 at UBBB Heydar Aliyev International Airport was made from the south, with a heading of 3.0° at 2 nautical miles and 497 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with a touchdown speed of 64 knots and a touchdown rate of -184 feet per minute. However, the touchdown point was 319 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 9.2 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions during landing were similar to those during takeoff, with a temperature of 4°C and winds of 14 knots at 320°. The crosswind was 6 knots, while the headwind was 13 knots. The total landing distance was 935 meters, which accounted for 23% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also misaligned by 19.8 meters from the centerline.
The total flight distance was 14 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 13 minutes. The aircraft used a total of -529 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The TBM 930 aircraft successfully landed at UBBB Heydar Aliyev International Airport, achieving a score of 87.4%. The final approach was conducted from the south, heading 3.0° at 2 nautical miles and 497 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 34, which has a length of 4,001 meters.
The threshold height was reported as good, but the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 90 knots. The touchdown point was 319 meters beyond the touchdown zone, indicating that the aircraft landed slightly down the runway. The touchdown speed of 64 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -184 feet per minute (fpm) was also good.
However, there were some issues with the alignment of the aircraft during the landing. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 9.2 meters from the centerline, and the runway rollout alignment was misaligned by 19.8 meters from the centerline. This suggests that the pilot may have had some difficulty maintaining a straight course during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 4°C and a wind speed of 14 knots from 320°. The crosswind component was 6 knots, while the headwind component was 13 knots. The total landing distance was 935 meters, which is 23% of the runway length. Overall, while the landing was successful, there were some areas for improvement in terms of alignment and control.
