Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,606 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,606 m of the 3,259 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 784 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Cessna Longitude, then departed from runway 19 at RJFO Oita Airport. The takeoff distance was 557 meters, which accounted for 19% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 121 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 18 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 7 knots at 280 degrees.
As the aircraft climbed away from RJFO Oita Airport, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead the airport and took the aircraft to an altitude of 45,368 feet above sea level. This climb phase covered a distance of 146 nautical miles and took 18 minutes to complete. The aircraft then entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 27 minutes and covered a distance of 252 nautical miles. This cruise phase started 25 miles south of Anan, Japan.
The enroute descent phase began 8 miles northeast of RJTQ Miyakejima Airport, where the aircraft descended from an altitude of 45,024 feet to 10,264 feet above sea level. This descent phase covered a distance of 100 nautical miles and took 14 minutes to complete. The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which lasted for 5 minutes and covered a distance of 21 nautical miles. This cruise phase started 12 miles southeast of Asahi, Japan.
The enroute descent phase began again, this time from an altitude of 10,189 feet to 6,107 feet above sea level. This descent phase covered a distance of 15 nautical miles and took 5 minutes to complete. The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which lasted for 2 minutes and covered a distance of 6 nautical miles. This cruise phase started overhead Omigawa, Japan.
The final enroute descent phase began 1 mile northwest of Katori-shi, Japan, where the aircraft descended from an altitude of 5,806 feet to 1,421 feet above sea level. This descent phase covered a distance of 9 nautical miles and took 6 minutes to complete.
The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 16R at RJAA Narita International Airport, which was located to the northwest. The approach was made at a heading of 149.0 degrees, and the aircraft was at an altitude of 1,261 feet above ground level when it was 4 nautical miles from the runway.
The landing was made on runway 16R, which had a length of 3,259 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was well above the target speed of 126 knots. The touchdown point was 361 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 104 knots, which was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate was perfect at -44 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.2 meters from the centerline.
The total landing distance was 1,519 meters, which accounted for 47% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
In total, the flight covered a distance of 558 nautical miles and took 87 minutes to complete. The aircraft used 1,195 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Cessna Longitude successfully landed at RJAA Narita International Airport, achieving a score of 92.3%. The aircraft approached the runway from the northwest, heading 149.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,261 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was made to runway 16R, which has a length of 3,259 meters.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold height was satisfactory, but the threshold speed was significantly above the target speed of 126 knots. This indicates that the pilot may have been able to flare the aircraft more aggressively, resulting in a slightly higher touchdown speed. The touchdown point was located 361 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation.
The touchdown speed of 104 knots was slightly faster than the target speed, but the touchdown rate of -44 feet per minute (fpm) was perfect. This suggests that the pilot was able to control the aircraft's descent effectively, resulting in a smooth touchdown. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.2 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's heading during the final approach.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 18°C and winds of 6 knots from 270°. The crosswind component was 5 knots, while the tailwind component was 3 knots. Despite these conditions, the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft and execute a successful landing.
The total landing distance of 1,519 meters was 47% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot demonstrated good control and decision-making skills throughout the approach and landing phases.
