Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 2,485 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,485 m of the 3,987 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 868 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The Airbus A321 then departed from runway 24R at LEPA Palma de Mallorca Airport, with a takeoff distance of 1,553 meters, which accounted for 49% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 163 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 23 degrees Celsius, a wind speed of 12 knots at 220 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 4 knots and a headwind of 11 knots.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb 1 mile west of LEPA Palma de Mallorca Airport. The climb took 27 minutes, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 1,004 feet above sea level to 35,508 feet above sea level, an increase of 34,504 feet. The enroute climb covered a distance of 139 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 69 miles south east of Llafranc, a town located in the region of Catalunya, Spain. This phase of the flight lasted for 52 minutes and covered a distance of 434 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its enroute descent overhead Soelden, a town located in the state of Tirol, Austria. The descent took 17 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 35,412 feet above sea level to 2,915 feet above sea level, a decrease of 32,497 feet. The enroute descent covered a distance of 86 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 08R at EDDM Munich Airport was made from the west, with the aircraft heading 83.0 degrees at an altitude of 4 nautical miles and 1,432 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 08R, which had a length of 3,987 meters. However, the threshold height at 64 feet above ground level was above the target, and the threshold speed was too high at 175 knots.
The touchdown point was 456 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 148 knots, which was fast. The touchdown rate was good at -192 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.6 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius, a wind speed of 13 knots at 90 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 13 knots.
The total landing distance was 2,409 meters, which accounted for 60% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 668 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 106 minutes. The aircraft used 5,517 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at EDDM Munich Airport, but with some areas for improvement. The final approach was initiated from the west, heading 83.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,432 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 08R, which has a length of 3,987 meters.
However, there were some discrepancies in the landing performance. The threshold height at 64 feet agl was above the target, indicating that the aircraft may have been slightly high on its approach. Additionally, the threshold speed was too high at 175 knots, which could have contributed to the aircraft's fast touchdown speed of 148 knots. The touchdown rate of -192 feet per minute (fpm) was good, indicating that the aircraft was able to absorb the impact of landing smoothly.
The touchdown point was 456 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a significant deviation from the intended landing spot. This could be attributed to the aircraft's slightly misaligned runway touchdown position, which was off-centerline by 6.6 meters. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 20°C and a headwind of 13 knots, may have also played a role in the aircraft's landing performance.
Despite these issues, the total landing distance of 2,409 meters was only 60% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft was able to stop relatively quickly after touchdown. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, suggesting that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
Overall, while the landing was not perfect, the Airbus A321 was able to safely touch down on the runway and come to a stop without incident. However, there are areas for improvement, particularly in terms of threshold speed and touchdown point accuracy.
