Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,307 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,307 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 509 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight departed from Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge Airport, KGKT, on runway 28, with a takeoff distance of 719 meters, which accounted for 46% of the runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 93 knots, with a local temperature of 18 degrees Celsius and a wind of 8 knots at 340 degrees. The crosswind component was 7 knots, while the headwind component was 4 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to its initial cruising altitude, it passed overhead Sevierville, Tennessee, and then began a level cruise 1 mile west of the city. The aircraft then climbed again, this time to 5,887 feet above sea level, and entered a level cruise 3 miles south of Dandridge, Tennessee. The cruise phase lasted for 11 minutes, covering a distance of 34 nautical miles. The aircraft then began a series of descents, first from 5,638 feet to 3,560 feet, and then from 2,772 feet to 1,922 feet. The final approach to runway 27 at Tri-Cities Regional TN/VA Airport was made from the east, with a heading of 274.0 degrees at 1 nautical mile and 403 feet above ground level.
The landing was made on runway 27, which had a length of 1,309 meters. The touchdown point was 86 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 94 knots and a touchdown rate of -66 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned from the centerline, and the runway rollout alignment was also misaligned. The total landing distance was 1,176 meters, which accounted for 90% of the runway length. The flight used a total of 64 kilograms of fuel and covered a distance of 80 nautical miles, taking a total of 32 minutes.
The aircraft, M500, initiated its final approach to runway 27 at KTRI Tri-Cities Regional TN/VA Airport from the east, aligning with the runway heading of 274.0° at 1 nautical mile and 403 feet above ground level. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a good threshold height achieved. However, the threshold speed was above the target, reaching 105 knots, which may have been a result of the aircraft's high approach speed.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 86 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 94 knots, which was faster than the desired rate. The touchdown rate, however, was excellent at -66 feet per minute, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. Unfortunately, the runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned from the centreline by 17.8 meters, which may have been a result of the crosswind or pilot error. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 13°C and a wind of 11 knots at 350°, may have also contributed to the misalignment.
The total landing distance of 1,176 meters was 90% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance. However, the runway rollout alignment was also misaligned from the centreline by 18.0 meters, which may have been a result of the pilot's difficulty in maintaining alignment during the rollout phase. Overall, the aircraft scored 80.1% for the landing, indicating a satisfactory but not exceptional performance.
