Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out. These checks are the approach's score.
At the 500 ft gate: centreline 2.7° off, against a 1° limit.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,537 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,537 m of the 3,140 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 642 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from SBBR Presidente Juscelino Kubitschek International Airport, the Airbus A320 initiated its departure roll on runway 29L, accelerating to a liftoff speed of 159 kt within 1,266 meters, which represented 39% of the available runway length. The aircraft lifted off smoothly, taking advantage of the favorable local weather conditions, with a temperature of 18 °C and a gentle headwind of 1 kt.
As the aircraft transitioned into the enroute phase, it began its initial climb, ascending from 4,438 feet above sea level to 5,395 feet, a vertical gain of 957 feet over a distance of 4 nautical miles, within a minute. The climb was characterized by a steady rate of ascent, allowing the aircraft to reach its cruising altitude efficiently. Subsequently, the aircraft initiated its descent, reducing its altitude from 5,392 feet to 3,956 feet over a distance of 6 nautical miles, within 2 minutes. This controlled descent ensured a smooth transition into the final approach phase.
The Airbus A320 then began its final approach to runway 29L, aligning itself with the runway heading of 269.0° at 1 nautical mile and 458 feet above ground level. The aircraft touched down 371 meters beyond the touchdown zone, at a speed of 106 kt, which was within the acceptable range. The touchdown rate of -234 feet per minute was fair, but the runway touchdown alignment was very good. The aircraft's total landing distance of 1,602 meters, representing 49% of the available runway length, was within the acceptable limits. Following a perfect runway rollout alignment, the aircraft concluded its flight, having covered a total distance of 13 nautical miles and consumed 7 kilograms of fuel.
The aircraft touched down on runway 29L at SBBR Presidente Juscelino Kubitschek International Airport, demonstrating a good threshold height and speed of 120 kt. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a heading of 269.0° from 1 nm and 458 ft above ground level. The touchdown point was 371 m beyond the touchdown zone, indicating a slight over-run. The touchdown speed of 106 kt was within acceptable limits, but the touchdown rate of -234 fpm was somewhat higher than desired.
The runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating precise control during the final stages of the approach. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 18 °C and a gentle wind of 4 kt at 158°, contributed to a relatively straightforward landing. The crosswind component was minimal at 4 kt, while the tailwind component was negligible at 1 kt. The total landing distance of 1,602 m, accounting for 49% of the runway length, was within acceptable limits.
The rollout phase was executed flawlessly, with perfect alignment along the runway centreline. The overall performance of the aircraft during the landing was satisfactory, earning a score of 92.0%. While there were some minor deviations from optimal performance, the crew demonstrated good control and situational awareness throughout the approach and landing phases.
