Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,130 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 592 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A319 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Brussels Airport, taking 7 minutes and covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. Departure roll took place on runway 25R, with a takeoff distance of 1,222 meters, which is 40% of the runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 161 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of a temperature of 26°C and a wind speed of 7 knots at 230°. The crosswind was 2 knots, while the headwind was 7 knots. The enroute climb started overhead Machelen, Flanders, Belgium, and continued to an altitude of 33,736 feet above sea level, an increase of 32,575 feet in 17 minutes, covering a distance of 90 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began overhead Ognes, Hauts-de-France, France, and lasted for 25 minutes, covering a distance of 309 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent from an altitude of 33,897 feet above sea level to 12,607 feet above sea level, a decrease of 21,290 feet in 9 minutes, covering a distance of 96 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise resumed overhead Orx, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 8 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent from an altitude of 12,609 feet above sea level to 10,817 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,792 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 16 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started again, this time 1 mile south west of Irun, Euskal Autonomia Erkidegoa, Spain, and lasted for 7 minutes, covering a distance of 29 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent from an altitude of 9,911 feet above sea level to 1,609 feet above sea level, a decrease of 8,302 feet in 8 minutes, covering a distance of 24 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 30 at Bilbao Airport took place from the south east, heading 297.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,468 feet above ground level. The aircraft landed on runway 30, which has a length of 2,130 meters. The threshold height was well above the target, while the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 133 knots.
The touchdown point was 173 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 118 knots, which was good. However, the touchdown rate was very hard at -530 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.9 meters from the centreline. Local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 24°C and a wind speed of 5 knots at 280°, with a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 5 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,245 meters, which is 58% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. Taxiing to the parking area from the runway took 4 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 581 nautical miles, taking 83 minutes, and the aircraft used 4,032 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A319 aircraft successfully landed at LEBB Bilbao Airport, achieving a score of 87.4%. The final approach to runway 30 was initiated from the south east, with a heading of 297.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,468 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's approach was conducted in a favorable local weather condition, with a temperature of 24°C, a wind speed of 5 knots at 280°, resulting in a 2-knot crosswind and a 5-knot headwind.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down 173 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is slightly off-target. However, the touchdown speed of 118 knots was within the acceptable range, indicating a good control of the aircraft's descent. Unfortunately, the touchdown rate was very hard, at -530 feet per minute (fpm), which may have been caused by a combination of factors, including the aircraft's weight, airspeed, and the pilot's control inputs.
The runway touchdown position was also slightly misaligned by 5.9 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's approach path or a miscalculation of the touchdown point. Despite these minor issues, the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilots maintained control of the aircraft during the landing roll.
The total landing distance of 1,245 meters was 58% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. Overall, the landing was successful, but there is room for improvement in terms of touchdown rate and touchdown position alignment.
