Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,896 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 305 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 31L at UGTB Tbilisi International Airport. The aircraft, an SR22, accelerated down the runway and lifted off at a speed of 84 kt, covering a distance of 199 m, which was 7% of the runway length. The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were characterized by a temperature of 23 °C and a wind speed of 10 kt from a direction of 300 °, resulting in a headwind of 10 kt and a crosswind of 3 kt.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began to ascend from an initial altitude of 2,180 ft above sea level to a higher altitude of 2,430 ft, an increase of 251 ft over a distance of 1 nm in just 1 minute. This climb phase took place over the UGTB Tbilisi International Airport, with the aircraft passing overhead before continuing on its journey.
Later in the flight, the aircraft began its descent from an altitude of 2,425 ft above sea level to a lower altitude of 1,662 ft, a decrease of 763 ft over a distance of 2 nm in 2 minutes. This descent phase took place over the UG24 Tbilisi Soganlug Air Base, with the aircraft passing overhead before continuing on its final approach to the destination airport.
The final approach to runway 31L at UGGG Lochini was made from the south east, with the aircraft flying at a heading of 319.0 ° and an altitude of 31 ft above ground level. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 22 °C and a wind speed of 11 kt from a direction of 300 °, resulting in a headwind of 11 kt and a crosswind of 3 kt.
The landing was successful, with the aircraft touching down on the runway at a speed of 67 kt and a distance of 304 m, which was 20% of the runway length. The touchdown rate was excellent, at -88 fpm, and the threshold speed was good at 81 kt. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 5.7 m, and the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 7.9 m from the centreline.
Overall, the flight was a successful one, with the aircraft covering a total distance of 4 nm and using 4 kg of fuel. The flight duration was 4 minutes, and the aircraft performed well in a variety of weather conditions.
The SR22 aircraft successfully landed on runway 31L at UGGG Lochini with a score of 95.7%. The final approach was conducted from the south east, heading 319.0° at 0 nm and 31 ft above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 81 kt.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft performed well, with a touchdown distance of 304 m, which is within the acceptable range. The touchdown speed was 67 kt, and the touchdown rate was excellent at -88 fpm, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.7 m from the centreline, which may require some adjustments in the approach or landing technique.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 22 °C and a wind speed of 11 kt at 300°. The crosswind component was minimal at 3 kt, while the headwind component was 11 kt, which helped to reduce the landing distance. The total landing distance was 583 m, which is only 20% of the runway length, indicating a safe and controlled landing.
During the rollout, the aircraft's alignment was slightly misaligned by 7.9 m from the centreline, which may require some adjustments in the braking or steering technique. Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot demonstrated good control and technique throughout the approach and landing phases.
