Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,230 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,230 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 181 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a short taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took less than a minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, an XCub, then departed from runway 31 at EDGS Siegerland Airport, with a takeoff distance of 151 meters, which accounted for 9% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 54 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of 3°C, with a wind speed of 9 knots at 330°.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead EDGS Siegerland Airport Burbach. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 2,342 feet above sea level to 3,125 feet above sea level, an increase of 783 feet in just 1 minute, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise then began, which lasted for 10 minutes and covered a distance of 21 nautical miles, starting overhead Willingen in Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany.
The enroute descent started 2 miles northwest of EDEV Pfingstweide Airfield Butzbach, with the aircraft descending from 3,801 feet above sea level to 3,271 feet above sea level, a decrease of 531 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 3 nautical miles. Another enroute level cruise then began, lasting for 3 minutes and covering a distance of 7 nautical miles, starting overhead EDEV Pfingstweide Airfield Butzbach.
The final descent started 2 miles northeast of Friedberg, with the aircraft descending from 2,560 feet above sea level to 786 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,774 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 4 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 36 at EDFB Reichelsheim Airfield, approaching from the south at a heading of 358.0°, at an altitude of 360 feet above ground level and a distance of 0 nautical miles from the runway.
The landing on runway 36 at EDFB Reichelsheim Airfield was successful, with a touchdown distance of 180 meters, which was good. The touchdown speed was 52 knots, and the touchdown rate was -179 feet per minute, which was also good. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.1 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 8°C, with a wind speed of 7 knots at 22°.
The total landing distance was 504 meters, which accounted for 41% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating a smooth and controlled landing. The total flight distance was 39 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 21 minutes, with the aircraft using 10 kilograms of fuel.
The XCub aircraft successfully landed at EDFB Reichelsheim Airfield, achieving a score of 94.1%. The final approach was conducted from the south, heading 358.0° at 0 nm and 360 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft landed on runway 36, which has a length of 1,230 meters.
The threshold height was reported as good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct height as it approached the runway. However, the threshold speed was too high at 68 knots, suggesting that the pilot may have been able to reduce the speed further before touchdown. The touchdown distance of 180 meters was considered good, and the touchdown speed of 52 knots was also within acceptable limits.
The touchdown rate of -179 feet per minute (fpm) was good, indicating that the aircraft touched down smoothly and without excessive deceleration. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.1 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the pilot's alignment during the approach.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 8°C and a wind speed of 7 knots from 22°. The crosswind component was 3 knots, while the headwind component was 6 knots. These conditions were relatively calm and did not pose a significant challenge to the pilot.
The total landing distance of 504 meters was 41% of the runway length, which is a reasonable distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase and bring it to a stop safely.
Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot demonstrated good control and judgment during the approach and touchdown phases. However, there is room for improvement in terms of reducing the threshold speed and maintaining a more precise alignment during the approach.
