See Departure Roll
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 545 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 545 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 155 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
This flight was conducted in a XCub aircraft, taking off from runway 04 at LFLJ Courchevel Altiport. The taxiing process from the parking area to the runway was brief, lasting less than a minute and covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The takeoff roll was completed in 430 meters, which accounted for 79% of the runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 80 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were characterized by a temperature of -3°C, with a wind speed of 4 knots from a direction of 284°. This resulted in a crosswind of 3 knots and a tailwind of 2 knots. The aircraft then transitioned to a level cruise, flying overhead Courchevel in the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region of France. This enroute phase lasted for 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
As the aircraft approached the destination, it began its final approach to runway 22 at LFLJ Courchevel Altiport. The approach was made from the north-east, with a heading of 225.0°. The aircraft was at an altitude of 441 feet above ground level (agl) and was 0 nautical miles from the runway threshold. The landing was executed on the runway, which had a length of 545 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly below the target speed of 53 knots.
The touchdown distance was good, with the aircraft coming to rest in 153 meters. The touchdown speed was 34 knots, which was considered good. The touchdown rate was also perfect, at 350 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline, by 8.8 meters. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of -4°C, with a wind speed of 4 knots from a direction of 277°. This resulted in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 2 knots.
The total landing distance was 289 meters, which accounted for 53% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned from the centreline, by 8.5 meters. The total flight distance was 2 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 4 minutes. The aircraft used 2 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The XCub aircraft successfully landed at LFLJ Courchevel Altiport, achieving a score of 93.4%. The final approach was conducted from the north-east, heading 225.0° at an altitude of 441 feet above ground level (agl) and 0 nautical miles from the runway. The aircraft touched down on runway 22, which has a length of 545 meters.
The threshold height was reported as good, and the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 53 knots. The touchdown distance was also good, measuring 153 meters. The touchdown speed of 34 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of 350 feet per minute was perfect.
However, there were some minor issues with the landing. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 8.8 meters from the centerline, and the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 8.5 meters from the centerline. Despite these minor deviations, the total landing distance of 289 meters was only 53% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of -4°C and a wind speed of 4 knots from 277°. The crosswind component was 3 knots, while the headwind component was 2 knots. These conditions did not appear to have a significant impact on the landing, and the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft throughout the approach and landing phases. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the XCub aircraft demonstrating good handling and control characteristics.
