Work on the flare
See Arrival Landing
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 500 ft gate: speed below the reference speed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,302 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,302 m of the 2,387 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,011 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway at EDDS Stuttgart Airport, taking approximately 8 minutes and covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 07, with a takeoff distance of 1,507 meters, which is 50% of the runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 153 knots.
As the aircraft departed, it encountered local weather conditions of 0°C temperature and a wind speed of 0 knots at 240 degrees. The crosswind and headwind were both 0 knots. The enroute climb started approximately 1 mile northwest of Neuhausen auf den Fildern, Germany, where the aircraft climbed from an altitude of 2,295 feet above sea level to 24,811 feet above sea level, an increase of 22,517 feet in 10 minutes, covering a distance of 53 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began overhead Bissingen, Germany, and lasted for 5 minutes, covering a distance of 39 nautical miles. The aircraft then started another enroute climb approximately 1 mile west of Bergkirchen, Germany, where it climbed from 24,752 feet above sea level to 34,132 feet above sea level, an increase of 9,379 feet in 7 minutes, covering a distance of 54 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise continued overhead EDUE Unterwössen Airfield, Unterwossen, Germany, and lasted for 23 minutes, covering a distance of 190 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent approximately 6 miles northwest of Krizpolje, Croatia, where it descended from 34,076 feet above sea level to 2,709 feet above sea level, a decrease of 31,367 feet in 17 minutes, covering a distance of 110 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started again approximately 15 miles southwest of Rogoznica, Croatia, and lasted for 10 minutes, covering a distance of 24 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 05 at LDSP Split Airport was made from the southwest, heading 52.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,294 feet above ground level.
The landing took place on runway 05 at LDSP Split Airport, which has a length of 2,387 meters. The threshold height was significantly above the target, and the threshold speed was well above the target at 142 knots. The touchdown point was 542 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 127 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was very heavy at -848 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.6 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 6°C temperature and a wind speed of 15 knots at 0 degrees. The crosswind was 12 knots, and the headwind was 9 knots. The total landing distance was 2,168 meters, which is 91% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 12.3 meters from the centerline.
The flight concluded with the aircraft taxiing to the parking area from the runway, taking approximately 3 minutes and covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 478 nautical miles, taking 87 minutes, and the aircraft used 3,393 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A319 aircraft has successfully landed at LDSP Split Airport, but the landing was not without its challenges. The final approach to runway 05 was initiated from the south west, with a heading of 52.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,294 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's performance during the landing was evaluated, and it was found that the threshold height was significantly above the target, indicating that the aircraft was higher than expected when reaching the runway threshold.
The threshold speed, which is the speed at which the aircraft should be flying when reaching the runway threshold, was also well above the target at 142 knots. This suggests that the aircraft was flying too fast when approaching the runway. The touchdown point was 542 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which indicates that the aircraft landed farther down the runway than intended. The touchdown speed of 127 knots was a little fast, and the touchdown rate of -848 feet per minute (fpm) was very heavy, indicating a hard landing.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.6 meters from the centerline, which may have contributed to the aircraft's slightly misaligned rollout alignment. The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were a temperature of 6°C and a wind speed of 15 knots at 0°, with a crosswind of 12 knots and a headwind of 9 knots. The total landing distance was 2,168 meters, which is 91% of the runway length.
Overall, while the aircraft landed safely, there were several areas for improvement, including reducing the threshold speed, touchdown speed, and touchdown rate, as well as improving the runway touchdown position and rollout alignment. These issues can be addressed through further training and practice to ensure that the aircraft lands smoothly and safely.
