Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,594 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 371 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft was an Airbus A320, and it departed from runway 36 at ENZV Stavanger Airport, Sola. The takeoff distance was 1,222 meters, which accounted for 49% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 169 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of 7 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 13 knots at 340 degrees.
The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile north of ENZV Stavanger Airport, Sola. The climb took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 17 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from 1,049 feet above sea level to 13,131 feet above sea level, an increase of 12,082 feet. The aircraft then entered a level cruise, lasting 5 minutes and covering 33 nautical miles, before beginning another climb 11 miles northwest of ENVE Valle Airfield Åraksøyne Valle. This climb took 7 minutes and covered 53 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from 13,078 feet above sea level to 21,003 feet above sea level, an increase of 7,925 feet.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, lasting 2 minutes and covering 14 nautical miles, before beginning its descent 6 miles east of Ulefoss. The descent took 7 minutes and covered 35 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from 21,223 feet above sea level to 10,545 feet above sea level, a decrease of 10,677 feet. The aircraft then entered another level cruise, lasting 5 minutes and covering 19 nautical miles, before beginning its final descent 3 miles southwest of Sundvollen. The descent took 8 minutes and covered 25 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from 10,136 feet above sea level to 1,940 feet above sea level, a decrease of 8,196 feet.
The final approach to runway 01L at ENGM Oslo Airport, Gardermoen was made from the south, with the aircraft heading 16.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,258 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 01L, which had a length of 3,594 meters. The threshold height was slightly above the target, but the threshold speed was good at 140 knots. The touchdown distance was also good at 370 meters, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 139 knots. The touchdown rate was very hard at -526 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 0 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 3 knots at 250 degrees. The crosswind was 3 knots, and the tailwind was 2 knots. The total landing distance was 1,381 meters, which accounted for 38% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 8.2 meters from the centerline. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 204 nautical miles, and the flight took 52 minutes, using 2,230 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed on runway 01L at ENGM Oslo Airport, Gardermoen, with a score of 92.9%. The aircraft approached the runway from the south, heading 16.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,258 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with a good threshold speed of 140 knots, which is within the acceptable range.
However, the touchdown speed of 139 knots was slightly above the ideal speed, indicating that the pilot may have applied a bit too much power during the flare. This resulted in a hard touchdown rate of -526 feet per minute (fpm), which is considered very hard. Despite this, the touchdown distance of 370 meters was within the acceptable range.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 0°C and a wind speed of 3 knots from 250°. The crosswind component was 3 knots, while the tailwind component was 2 knots. These conditions did not significantly impact the landing, as the aircraft maintained a good runway touchdown alignment.
The total landing distance of 1,381 meters was 38% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 8.2 meters from the centerline, indicating that the pilot may have applied a bit too much brake or steering input during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, but there were some minor issues with the touchdown speed and rollout alignment. These can be addressed through further training and practice to improve the pilot's skills and reduce the risk of errors during landing.
