Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 4,001 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 349 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took approximately 5 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Learjet 35A, then departed from runway 35 at UBBB Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku, Azerbaijan. The takeoff distance was 936 meters, which accounted for 29% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 137 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 9°C and winds of 8 knots at 20°. The crosswind was 3 knots, while the headwind was 7 knots. After departing from the airport, the enroute climb started overhead the airport, with the aircraft ascending from 1,034 feet above sea level to 2,019 feet above sea level, an increase of 985 feet in just 1 minute, covering a distance of 4 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 1 mile south east of Bilajer, a suburb of Baku, and lasted for 9 minutes, covering a distance of 34 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent 2 miles south of Hovsan, another suburb of Baku, descending from 2,008 feet above sea level to 1,338 feet above sea level, a decrease of 670 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 4 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 34 at UBBB Heydar Aliyev International Airport was made from the south, with the aircraft heading 347.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,327 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 34 was successful, with the touchdown point being 69 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 116 knots, which was considered good, and the touchdown rate was also good at -199 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 7.7 meters, and the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 10.1 meters from the centreline. The total landing distance was 1,391 meters, which accounted for 35% of the runway length. The local weather conditions during landing were similar to those during takeoff, with a temperature of 7°C and winds of 8 knots at 20°, a crosswind of 4 knots, and a headwind of 7 knots.
The total flight distance was 48 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 16 minutes. The aircraft used 117 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Learjet 35A successfully landed at UBBB Heydar Aliyev International Airport, achieving a score of 92.0%. The aircraft approached the runway from the south, heading 347.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,327 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot executed a smooth final approach, maintaining a good threshold height and achieving a threshold speed of 120 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 69 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 116 knots. The touchdown rate was also satisfactory at -199 feet per minute (fpm). However, there was a slight deviation in the runway touchdown position, with the aircraft being 7.7 meters off-centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 7°C and a wind speed of 8 knots from a direction of 20°. This resulted in a crosswind of 4 knots and a headwind of 7 knots. Despite these conditions, the pilot managed to maintain control of the aircraft and execute a safe landing.
The total landing distance was 1,391 meters, which accounted for 35% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned, with the aircraft being 10.1 meters off-centerline. However, these deviations did not significantly impact the overall safety of the landing, and the pilot's performance was deemed satisfactory.
