Arrival
Add power on short final to hold 82 kt at the threshold rather than letting speed decay.
What happened: You crossed the threshold at 71 kt against a target of 82 kt, below reference speed.
Watch for: Airspeed indicator, hold 82 kt down to the threshold.
See Arrival Landing
Every knot above Vref is stored kinetic energy, and energy stored at the threshold must be dissipated in ground effect before the aeroplane will stop flying. Because kinetic energy scales with the square of speed, the excess you must dissipate grows fast. At a 45-knot approach, five knots hot is over a tenth more speed and roughly a quarter more energy to get rid of in ground effect. This is why the fix is never in the flare. It was decided three miles earlier, on final, at the airspeed indicator.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,786 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 114 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Cotswold Airport (EGBP), the DA50 aircraft initiated its takeoff roll on runway 26, accelerating to a liftoff speed of 75 kt in a distance of 475 m, which represented 29% of the available runway length. The local weather conditions at the time were characterized by a temperature of 15 °C and a light headwind of 1 kt from a direction of 270°.
As the aircraft entered the traffic pattern, it proceeded to complete a left-hand circuit, with the downwind leg being the longest segment at approximately 2 nm. The aircraft then turned onto the base leg, maintaining a 45° angle to the runway, before aligning itself for the final approach. The pilot successfully executed a smooth touchdown on runway 26, with a touchdown speed of 66 kt and a rate of descent of -112 fpm. The total landing distance was 370 m, which equated to 23% of the available runway length. The runway rollout was also noted to be perfectly aligned.
The flight, which covered a total distance of 7 nm, utilized approximately 2 kg of fuel and lasted for 5 minutes. The pilot's handling of the aircraft throughout the flight was characterized by precision and control, with the aircraft responding well to the various phases of flight. The local weather conditions remained relatively stable throughout the flight, with a slight increase in temperature to 16 °C and a light headwind of 1 kt from a direction of 269°.
The aircraft touched down on runway 26 at EGBP Cotswold Airport with a smooth touchdown rate of -112 fpm, indicating a well-executed landing. The threshold height was good, allowing the pilot to maintain a safe margin above the runway surface. However, the threshold speed was slightly below the target, coming in at 71 kt, which may have been a result of the minimal headwind of 1 kt.
The touchdown distance of 112 m was within acceptable limits, and the touchdown speed of 66 kt was also good, indicating a controlled descent. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, with the aircraft centered on the runway. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 16 °C and a minimal wind of 1 kt at 269 °, contributed to a stable and predictable approach.
The total landing distance of 370 m, which accounted for 23% of the runway length, was within acceptable limits. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, with the aircraft maintaining its centerline alignment throughout the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was executed well, with a score of 99.2% indicating a high level of proficiency.
