MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,737 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 391 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Portland International Airport (KPDX), the Boeing 737-800 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 5 minutes and covered 2 nautical miles. As it reached the threshold of runway 28L, the aircraft initiated its departure roll, accelerating down the 1,633-meter runway, which was utilized at 49% of its length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 161 knots, overcoming the local headwind of 12 knots and a crosswind of 2 knots.
As the aircraft climbed away from KPDX, it began its enroute climb 1 mile east of Bridgeton, Oregon, rising from an initial altitude of 963 feet above sea level to a cruising altitude of 37,007 feet, an increase of 36,044 feet in 20 minutes. The climb phase covered 158 nautical miles, setting the stage for a long-haul journey. The aircraft then entered a level cruise phase, which lasted 32 minutes and covered 493 nautical miles, before initiating its enroute descent 3 miles west of Buttonwillow, California. The descent phase saw the aircraft drop from 36,996 feet to 3,039 feet in 18 minutes, covering 166 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered a brief level cruise phase, lasting 2 minutes and covering 5 nautical miles, before initiating its final descent 2 miles south east of Yorba Linda, California.
As the aircraft approached John Wayne Orange County International Airport (KSNA), it began its final approach to runway 20R from the north east, aligning itself with the runway at 4 nautical miles and 1,268 feet above ground level. The aircraft landed on the 1,734-meter runway, utilizing 54% of its length, with a touchdown distance of 393 meters. The touchdown speed was slightly fast at 135 knots, but the touchdown rate was smooth at -136 feet per minute. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, a process that took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 839 nautical miles, taking 84 minutes, and the aircraft consumed 5,410 kilograms of fuel during the journey.
The Boeing 737-800 touched down on runway 20R at KSNA John Wayne Orange County International Airport with a smooth touchdown rate of -136 fpm, slightly above the ideal rate. The aircraft's touchdown speed of 135 kt was a little fast, but still within acceptable limits. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, with the aircraft centered on the runway's centerline. The approach quality was excellent, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 140 kt, which was well within the recommended range.
As the aircraft rolled out, it maintained a very good alignment with the runway centerline, demonstrating precise control and coordination from the flight crew. The total landing distance of 940 m was 54% of the runway's length, indicating a relatively short landing distance. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 24 °C and a headwind of 9 kt, contributed to a stable and predictable approach. The crosswind of 8 kt was well within manageable limits, allowing the flight crew to maintain control throughout the approach and landing phases.
The overall performance of the flight crew and the aircraft was impressive, with a final approach score of 99.6%. This high score reflects the crew's ability to navigate the aircraft through a challenging approach and landing, taking into account the wind conditions and the aircraft's performance characteristics. The successful landing on runway 20R at KSNA John Wayne Orange County International Airport was a testament to the crew's skill and experience, as well as the aircraft's reliability and maneuverability.
