Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,686 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 70 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Airbus A220-300 taxied from the parking area to runway 05 at KCRW Yeager Airport in 1 minutes, covering less than 1 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 05, the aircraft used 1,570 m of runway (78 % of the available length) and lifted off at 144 kt; local weather was 26 °C with a wind of 1 kt from 353 ° and no cross- or head-wind component.
The en-route climb commenced 1 mi north-east of KCRW, climbing from 1,916 ft asl to 36,937 ft asl - an increase of 35,021 ft - in 24 minutes while covering 147 nm.
A level cruise began 2 mi north of VG10 Cathro Airport, lasting 15 minutes and extending over 111 nm.
Descent started 1 mi south of Selby-on-the-Bay, descending from 36,629 ft asl to 7,995 ft asl - a loss of 28,635 ft - in 20 minutes and covering 117 nm.
A subsequent cruise segment over Pennington lasted 7 minutes and spanned 28 nm.
The next descent began 1 mi south-east of Mendham, dropping from 7,572 ft asl to 6,992 ft asl - a loss of 580 ft - in 2 minutes over 5 nm.
Cruising again 1 mi south-east of Randolph lasted 7 minutes and covered 29 nm.
Descent over Linden reduced altitude from 6,994 ft asl to 6,488 ft asl - a loss of 506 ft - in 2 minutes across 6 nm.
A brief cruise over Metuchen lasted 3 minutes and encompassed 11 nm.
Descent beginning 1 mi north of Dayton brought the aircraft from 6,499 ft asl to 1,714 ft asl - a loss of 4,785 ft - in 7 minutes, covering 20 nm.
The final cruise segment over Perth Amboy lasted 3 minutes and covered 8 nm.
On final approach to runway 04R at KEWR Newark Liberty International Airport, the aircraft descended from 1,243 ft agl to 20 ft agl in 106 seconds and scored on the stabilisation gates.
Landing on runway 04R, which is 2,686 m long, the aircraft achieved a threshold speed of 126 kt (slightly below target), touched down 69 m from the threshold at 125 kt, and recorded a touchdown rate of minus 234 fpm; the touchdown point was 7.0 m off centreline. Local conditions were 20 °C with a wind of 11 kt from 233 °, a 5 kt cross-wind and a 10 kt tail-wind. Total landing distance was 1,356 m (50 % of runway).
Runway rollout alignment was measured at 12.9 m off the centreline.
The aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking area in 8 minutes, traveling 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 488 nm, lasted 99 minutes, and consumed 2,779 kg of fuel.
The Airbus A220-300 conducted the final approach to runway 04R at KEWR Newark Liberty International Airport and was assessed as stabilised at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope, centreline and speed all within limits; the descent from 1,243 ft agl to 20 ft agl was completed in 106 seconds and the approach earned full marks on the stabilisation gates.
During the threshold and flare the aircraft maintained a good threshold height, with a threshold speed slightly below target at 126 kt and a touchdown distance of 69 m; touchdown speed was recorded at 125 kt and judged good.
Touchdown occurred with a fair rate of descent at minus 234 fpm, the runway touchdown position being slightly misaligned by 7.0 m from the centreline and the total landing distance measured 1,356 m, representing 50 % of the runway length.
Rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 12.9 m from the centreline.
With a score of 93.0 % the landing was solid; focus on tighter centreline tracking during flare and rollout to reduce the 7.0 m and 12.9 m deviations and further improve alignment.
