Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,572 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,572 m of the 3,715 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 605 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The Airbus A319 then departed from runway 34R at LTBJ Adnan Menderes International Airport, with a takeoff distance of 1,355 meters, which accounted for 42% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 153 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 39 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 22 knots at 339 degrees.
As the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude, it encountered a significant increase in elevation, rising from 1,422 feet above sea level to 21,680 feet above sea level, a total increase of 20,258 feet, in just 9 minutes and covering a distance of 47 nautical miles. The enroute climb started overhead LTBK Gaziemir Air Base in Gaziemir, Izmir, Turkey.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 10 minutes and covered a distance of 70 nautical miles. This phase began 1 mile southwest of Bergama, Izmir, Turkey. The aircraft then began its descent, which started 3 miles northeast of Biga, Canakkale, Turkey, and lasted for 18 minutes, covering a distance of 68 nautical miles. The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 21,343 feet above sea level to 3,728 feet above sea level, a decrease of 17,615 feet.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which lasted for 5 minutes and covered a distance of 14 nautical miles. This phase began 6 miles southwest of Beylikduezue, Istanbul, Turkey. The aircraft then began its final descent, which started 4 miles south of Arnavutkoey, Istanbul, Turkey, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 5 nautical miles. The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 3,060 feet above sea level to 1,614 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,446 feet.
The final approach to runway 34L at LTFM Istanbul Airport was made from the south, with the aircraft heading 359.0 degrees at an altitude of 4 nautical miles and 1,368 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 34L was successful, with the touchdown point being 162 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 113 knots, which was within the acceptable range, but the touchdown rate was very hard at -510 feet per minute.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 29 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 14 knots at 70 degrees. The crosswind was 13 knots, and the headwind was 4 knots. The total landing distance was 1,463 meters, which accounted for 39% of the runway. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 14.2 meters, and the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 14.0 meters from the centerline.
The taxiing from the runway to the parking area took 13 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The total flight distance was 214 nautical miles, and the total flight time was 66 minutes. The aircraft used 2,455 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A319 aircraft successfully landed on runway 34L at LTFM İstanbul Airport, but with some notable deviations from the ideal landing parameters. The final approach was initiated from the south, heading 359.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,368 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's speed and altitude were well within the target parameters, with a threshold speed of 125 knots and a height of 80 feet agl, which was slightly above the target.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was 113 knots, which was within the acceptable range. However, the touchdown rate was quite hard, at -510 feet per minute (fpm), indicating a relatively abrupt deceleration upon contact with the runway. The touchdown point was 162 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which may indicate a slight overrunning of the intended landing spot.
The runway touchdown position was also misaligned by 14.2 meters from the centerline, which could pose a slight risk of veering off the runway during the rollout phase. The runway rollout alignment was similarly misaligned by 14.0 meters from the centerline, although this deviation was slightly less pronounced than the initial touchdown misalignment.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 29°C and a wind speed of 14 knots from a direction of 70°. The crosswind component was 13 knots, while the headwind component was 4 knots. The total landing distance was 1,463 meters, which accounted for approximately 39% of the runway length. Overall, while the landing was successful, there were some notable deviations from the ideal parameters that may warrant further attention and improvement.
