Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,996 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 551 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 7 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a PC-12, then departed from runway 10 at MYBS South Bimini Airport. The takeoff distance was 724 meters, which accounted for 37% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 93 knots, and the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 24°C, a wind speed of 1 knot at 180°, with no crosswind or headwind.
As the aircraft climbed, it started its enroute climb overhead MYBS South Bimini Airport, rising from an altitude of 588 feet above sea level to 27,630 feet above sea level, an increase of 27,042 feet in 17 minutes, covering a distance of 59 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise began 21 miles west of MYAN San Andros Airport, where the aircraft maintained a steady altitude for 40 minutes, covering a distance of 148 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 30 miles east of MUCC Jardines Del Rey Airport, where the aircraft descended from 27,544 feet above sea level to 1,692 feet above sea level, a decrease of 25,852 feet in 21 minutes, covering a distance of 74 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 08 at MUCM Ignacio Agramonte International Airport was made from the southwest, heading 68.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,275 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 08 was successful, with the touchdown point being 118 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 78 knots, which was good, and the touchdown rate was excellent at -58 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 30°C, a wind speed of 6 knots at 150°, with a crosswind of 6 knots and a headwind of 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 1,095 meters, which accounted for 37% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also very good. After landing, the taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 287 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 85 minutes, with a fuel consumption of 268 kilograms.
The aircraft in question, a PC-12, successfully landed at Ignacio Agramonte International Airport, with a final approach score of 96.5%. The approach was initiated from the southwest, heading 68.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,275 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot successfully navigated the aircraft onto runway 08, which has a length of 2,996 meters.
Upon landing, the pilot demonstrated good control, with a threshold height that was well within acceptable limits. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed, coming in at 94 knots. Despite this, the touchdown point was 118 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation. The touchdown speed of 78 knots was within acceptable limits, and the touchdown rate of -58 feet per minute (fpm) was excellent, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 30°C and a relatively light wind of 6 knots from a direction of 150°. This resulted in a crosswind of 6 knots and a headwind of 1 knot, which the pilot successfully managed during the landing. The total landing distance of 1,095 meters was 37% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing roll. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, demonstrating the pilot's ability to maintain control and stability during the landing.
Overall, the landing was a success, with the pilot demonstrating good control and management of the aircraft throughout the approach and landing phases. The score of 96.5% reflects the high level of proficiency and skill displayed by the pilot during this landing.
