Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.

Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,881 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 349 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A321, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at EDDW Bremen Airport. This process took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then departed from runway 27, with a takeoff distance of 1,184 meters, which was 58% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 155 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of 14°C temperature and a wind speed of 4 knots at 210°. The crosswind was 3 knots, and the headwind was 2 knots. The enroute climb started overhead Stuhr, Lower Saxony, Germany, and the aircraft climbed from 1,013 feet above sea level to 28,876 feet above sea level, an increase of 27,863 feet in 15 minutes, covering a distance of 74 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started overhead Zweeloo, Provincie Drenthe, The Netherlands, and lasted for 14 minutes, covering a distance of 109 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent from 29,510 feet above sea level to 25,802 feet above sea level, a decrease of 3,709 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 26 nautical miles. This descent started 7 miles west of Ter Heijde, Provincie Zuid-Holland, The Netherlands.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 18 miles northwest of Nieuw-Haamstede, Provincie Zeeland, The Netherlands, and lasting for 3 minutes, covering a distance of 27 nautical miles. The enroute climb started 36 miles northwest of Wenduine, Flanders, Belgium, and the aircraft climbed from 25,833 feet above sea level to 31,077 feet above sea level, an increase of 5,244 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 25 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began its descent from 31,160 feet above sea level to 27,724 feet above sea level, a decrease of 3,436 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 25 nautical miles. This descent started 22 miles southeast of Felixstowe, Suffolk, England. The enroute level cruise started 4 miles south of Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, England, and lasted for 5 minutes, covering a distance of 40 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 1 mile northeast of Cookham, Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, England, and lasting for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 12 nautical miles. The enroute descent started 2 miles west of Rotherfield Peppard, Oxfordshire, England, and the aircraft descended from 21,767 feet above sea level to 11,807 feet above sea level, a decrease of 9,959 feet in 5 minutes, covering a distance of 36 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 1 mile east of Great Somerford, Wiltshire, England, and lasting for 3 minutes, covering a distance of 22 nautical miles. The enroute descent started overhead Bishopsworth, City of Bristol, England, and the aircraft descended from 11,798 feet above sea level to 3,145 feet above sea level, a decrease of 8,654 feet in 8 minutes, covering a distance of 14 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 4 miles southwest of Magor, Monmouthshire, Wales, and lasting for 5 minutes, covering a distance of 13 nautical miles. The enroute descent started overhead Winford, North Somerset, England, and the aircraft descended from 2
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed on runway 27 at EGGD Bristol Airport, achieving a score of 93.8%. The final approach was initiated from the east, heading 267.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,264 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's approach speed and threshold height were well within the acceptable limits, with a threshold speed of 136 kt.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 104 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is slightly outside the recommended area. The touchdown speed of 138 kt was a bit faster than the ideal speed, resulting in a hard touchdown rate of -455 feet per minute (fpm). Additionally, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.2 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 12°C, with a wind speed of 22 kt blowing from 160°. This resulted in a crosswind of 21 kt and a tailwind of 6 kt. Despite these conditions, the aircraft's landing distance of 1,380 meters was 73% of the available runway length, indicating a relatively short landing roll.
The runway rollout alignment was reported to be very good, suggesting that the aircraft's brakes were applied smoothly and effectively, allowing for a stable and controlled deceleration. Overall, while there were some minor deviations from the ideal landing parameters, the Airbus A321 aircraft demonstrated a high level of proficiency and control during the landing at EGGD Bristol Airport.
