MY FS FLIGHTS

Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,817 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,817 m of the 2,713 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 708 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The aircraft taxied from the parking area to runway 35R at Calgary International Airport in 7 minutes, covering a distance of 2 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 35R, the Boeing 737 MAX 8 used 1,885 m of runway, representing 44 % of the available length, and lifted off at 156 kt; ambient temperature was 20 °C with calm winds (0 kt from 72°) and no cross- or head-wind component.
Climb commenced 2 mi north of CYYC, with the airplane accelerating from 4,532 ft asl to 37,022 ft asl, an altitude gain of 32,491 ft achieved in 19 minutes while traversing 140 nm.
Level cruise began 10 mi southwest of Cardston and continued for 122 minutes, during which the flight covered 918 nm.
Descent was initiated 11 mi southwest of 5CA4 Ludlow Airport, Barstow, descending from 36,995 ft asl to 1,419 ft asl, a loss of 35,576 ft in 18 minutes over a distance of 110 nm.
The final approach to runway 24R at Los Angeles International Airport was flown from the east, on a heading of 263.0° at 4 nm and 1,286 ft agl.
Landing on runway 24R was executed with a threshold speed of 148 kt; touchdown occurred 294 m beyond the touchdown zone at 140 kt, with a vertical speed of minus 295 fpm, and the aircraft aligned perfectly with the runway centerline. Local conditions were 24 °C, wind 4 kt from 260°, with zero cross-wind and a 4 kt head-wind component. The total landing roll measured 1,738 m, equivalent to 64 % of the runway length.
Runway rollout proceeded without deviation, maintaining perfect alignment throughout the deceleration phase.
After exiting the runway, the aircraft taxied to the parking area in 4 minutes, covering the final 1 nm of ground movement.
In total, the flight covered 1,178 nm, required 172 minutes of airborne time, and consumed 6,187 kg of fuel.
The Boeing 737 MAX 8, scored 91.0 % on the landing, entered the final approach to runway 24R at KLAX from the east on a heading of 263.0 ° at 4 nm and 1,286 ft agl. The approach was assessed as stabilised at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope and centreline all within limits. Local weather was 24 °C with wind 4 kt from 260 °, cross-wind 0 kt and head-wind 4 kt.
During the threshold and flare phase the aircraft presented a good threshold height and a good threshold speed of 148 kt.
Touchdown occurred 294 m beyond the touchdown zone; the touchdown speed was 140 kt, noted as a little fast, and the touchdown rate was fair at minus 295 fpm. Runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 1,738 m, representing 64 % of the 2,713 m runway, and runway rollout alignment remained perfect.
To refine the already strong performance, reduce the touchdown speed slightly toward the target and manage the descent rate to achieve a smoother touchdown while preserving the excellent alignment.
