Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: six checks at the point nearest 500 ft above the runway after the base turn. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 628 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 628 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 43 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Hamm-Lippewiesen Airfield, the Extra 330 aircraft initiated its departure roll on runway 24, accelerating to a liftoff speed of 82 kt in a distance of 322 meters, which accounted for 51% of the available runway length. The aircraft lifted off into a local temperature of 17 °C, with a wind of 14 kt at 271 °, resulting in a crosswind of 8 kt and a headwind of 12 kt.
As the aircraft entered the left-hand traffic pattern, it demonstrated a swift and efficient turn, completing the maneuver in less than 1 nm in 39 seconds. The subsequent crosswind turn was even more rapid, taking just 16 seconds to complete. The pilot then executed a pattern downwind turn, maintaining a 45-degree angle to the runway, and subsequently flew the downwind leg, covering a distance of 2 nm in 56 seconds. The base leg turn was also executed at a 45-degree angle, followed by a base leg of 1 nm in 40 seconds. The final turn was completed in less than 1 nm in 35 seconds, setting the aircraft up for a final approach to runway 24 from the north-east.
The aircraft touched down on the runway at a speed of 64 kt, with a touchdown distance of 23 meters, which was considered good. The touchdown rate was an excellent -93 fpm, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.5 meters from the centreline. The total landing distance was 332 meters, accounting for 53% of the available runway length. Following touchdown, the aircraft rolled out, but its alignment was slightly off-centre by 9.2 meters. The total flight distance was 7 nm, and the aircraft used 3 kg of fuel, completing the flight in 5 minutes.
The aircraft touched down on runway 24 at EDLH Hamm-Lippewiesen Airfield with a good threshold height, indicating a well-executed approach. The threshold speed of 64 kt was slightly below the target, but still within acceptable limits. The touchdown distance of 23 m was satisfactory, and the touchdown speed of 64 kt was consistent with the target. The touchdown rate of -93 fpm was excellent, demonstrating precise control during the final stages of the approach.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.5 m from the centreline, which may have been due to the crosswind component of 10 kt. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 16 °C and wind at 18 kt from 272 °, contributed to the slight deviation from the centreline. The total landing distance of 332 m, which accounted for 53% of the runway length, was within acceptable limits.
During the rollout phase, the aircraft's alignment was slightly misaligned by 9.2 m from the centreline, which may have been due to the continued effect of the crosswind. Despite this, the overall performance of the aircraft was satisfactory, with a final score of 90.8%. The pilot's ability to maintain control and precision throughout the approach and touchdown phases was evident, and the aircraft's handling characteristics were demonstrated to be within acceptable limits.
