Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,432 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 424 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a CRJ900, then departed from runway 31 at Winnipeg's James Armstrong Richardson International Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,569 meters, which accounted for 59% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 157 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 21 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 17 knots from a direction of 310 degrees. This resulted in a 3-knot crosswind and a 17-knot headwind. The aircraft began its enroute climb 1 mile northwest of the airport, rising from an altitude of 1,801 feet above sea level to 37,532 feet above sea level, an increase of 35,731 feet, in 12 minutes and covering a distance of 196 nautical miles.
The enroute climb was followed by a brief level cruise, which started 21 miles south of the Hudson Seaplane Base in Dryden, Ontario, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 51 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent 32 miles north of the Cushing Lake Seaplane Base in Atikokan, Ontario, and descended from 37,577 feet to 37,069 feet, a decrease of 508 feet, in 2 minutes and covering a distance of 47 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise resumed 37 miles north of Lappe, Ontario, and lasted for 17 minutes, covering a distance of 486 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent 20 miles east of Mattawa, Ontario, and descended from 38,183 feet to 1,556 feet, a decrease of 36,626 feet, in 14 minutes and covering a distance of 125 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 25 at Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport was made from the northeast, with a heading of 237.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,186 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 25, which had a length of 2,432 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was well above the target at 153 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 425 meters, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 143 knots. The touchdown rate was excellent at -68 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 10.8 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 33 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 14 knots from a direction of 200 degrees, resulting in a 9-knot crosswind and an 11-knot headwind.
The total landing distance was 1,219 meters, which accounted for 50% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 11.2 meters from the centerline. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 914 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 54 minutes. The aircraft used 3,835 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The CRJ900 aircraft successfully landed at CYOW Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport, achieving a score of 95.6%. The final approach was initiated from the northeast, heading 237.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,186 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft successfully touched down on runway 25, which has a length of 2,432 meters.
The threshold height was satisfactory, and the threshold speed was well above the target at 153 knots. The touchdown distance was also good, measuring 425 meters. However, the touchdown speed of 143 knots was slightly faster than desired. The touchdown rate was excellent, with a rate of -68 feet per minute (fpm).
Despite the successful landing, there were some minor issues with the aircraft's alignment. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 10.8 meters from the centerline, and the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 11.2 meters from the centerline. These minor deviations from the centerline may require some adjustments to the aircraft's approach and landing procedures.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 33°C and a wind speed of 14 knots from 200°. The crosswind component was 9 knots, while the headwind component was 11 knots. These conditions may have contributed to the slight misalignment of the aircraft during the landing.
Overall, the CRJ900 aircraft demonstrated a high level of proficiency during the landing, with a score of 95.6%. However, some minor adjustments to the approach and landing procedures may be necessary to improve the aircraft's alignment and touchdown speed.
