Work on the flare
See Arrival Landing
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 1,000 ft gate: speed above the reference speed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,120 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,120 m of the 3,987 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,413 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A320 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at LDZA Zagreb Franjo Tuđman International Airport. This process took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 04, with a takeoff distance of 1,155 meters, which accounted for 36% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 164 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions of 4°C temperature and winds of 4 knots at 100 degrees. The crosswind was 3 knots, and the headwind was 2 knots. The enroute climb started overhead Velika Kosnica, a town in Zagreb County, Croatia, where the aircraft climbed from 1,365 feet above sea level to 16,454 feet above sea level, an increase of 15,089 feet in 9 minutes, covering a distance of 41 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 1 mile north of Ponikva, a town in Obcina Sentjur, Slovenia, and lasted for 3 minutes, covering 24 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another enroute climb, this time from 16,667 feet above sea level to 25,456 feet above sea level, an increase of 8,789 feet in 10 minutes, covering a distance of 81 nautical miles, as it flew over Ravne na Koroskem, a town in Obcina Ravne na Koroskem, Slovenia.
As the aircraft continued its journey, it began an enroute descent from 25,285 feet above sea level to 5,408 feet above sea level, a decrease of 19,876 feet in 16 minutes, covering a distance of 93 nautical miles, as it flew over Filzmoos, a town in Salzburg, Austria. The enroute level cruise then started 1 mile southwest of Karlsfeld, a town in Bavaria, Germany, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering 5 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began another enroute descent from 5,047 feet above sea level to 2,794 feet above sea level, a decrease of 2,252 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 11 nautical miles, as it flew over Dachau, a town in Bavaria, Germany. The final approach to runway 08R at EDDM Munich Airport was made from the west, heading 83.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,307 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 08R at EDDM Munich Airport was successful, with the touchdown point being 992 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 113 knots, which was good, but the touchdown rate was heavy at -622 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 11.9 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 2°C temperature and winds of 5 knots at 80 degrees, with a crosswind of 0 knots and a headwind of 5 knots.
The total landing distance was 2,035 meters, which accounted for 51% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 11.5 meters from the centreline. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took 6 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 263 nautical miles, taking 57 minutes, and the aircraft used 2,529 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A320 aircraft successfully landed on runway 08R at EDDM Munich Airport, but with some notable deviations from the ideal landing parameters. The final approach was initiated from the west, heading 83.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,307 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on the runway, but the touchdown point was 992 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating a slight over-run.
The touchdown speed of 113 knots was within the acceptable range, suggesting that the pilot maintained control and managed the descent effectively. However, the touchdown rate of -622 feet per minute (fpm) was considered heavy, indicating a steeper-than-desired descent. This could be attributed to the pilot's decision to prioritize a shorter landing distance or to compensate for the aircraft's altitude at the threshold.
The threshold height at 76 feet agl was significantly above the target, which may have contributed to the heavy touchdown rate. The threshold speed of 133 knots was satisfactory, indicating that the pilot maintained a stable approach speed. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 2°C and a headwind of 5 knots, were relatively calm, which should have facilitated a smooth landing.
Despite the successful touchdown, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 11.9 meters from the centerline, indicating a slight deviation from the ideal alignment. This misalignment was also observed during the runway rollout, where the aircraft was 11.5 meters off-centerline. These deviations may be attributed to the pilot's decision to prioritize a shorter landing distance or to the aircraft's response to the wind conditions.
Overall, the landing was considered satisfactory, with a total landing distance of 2,035 meters, which accounted for 51% of the runway length. While there were some deviations from the ideal landing parameters, the pilot maintained control and managed the descent effectively, ensuring a safe and successful landing.
