MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,395 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 423 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 47 minutes and covered a distance of 7 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 24 at EDLW Dortmund Airport, with a takeoff distance of 632 meters, which accounted for 45% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 148 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 16°C, with a wind speed of 1 knot at 269°. The crosswind was negligible, while the headwind was 1 knot. As the aircraft took off, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead EDLW Dortmund Airport. The climb was steep, with the aircraft ascending from 1,388 feet above sea level to 14,000 feet above sea level in just 5 minutes, covering a distance of 26 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise phase began 3 miles north of Oer-Erkenschwick, and lasted for 2 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 9 nautical miles. The descent phase started overhead Herten, and the aircraft descended from 13,998 feet above sea level to 1,508 feet above sea level in 12 minutes, covering a distance of 40 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached EDDL Düsseldorf Airport, it began its final approach to runway 23L from the north-east, heading 233.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,370 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with a touchdown distance of 418 meters, which was well within the acceptable range. The touchdown speed was 117 knots, and the touchdown rate was heavy at -610 feet per minute.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 14°C, with a wind speed of 15 knots at 189°. The crosswind was 10 knots, while the headwind was 11 knots. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, but the runway rollout alignment was excessively misaligned by 84.0 meters from the centreline.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took just 1 minute, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 88 nautical miles, which was covered in 32 minutes, and the aircraft used 42,519 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The A400M aircraft successfully landed on runway 23L at EDDL Düsseldorf Airport, achieving a score of 77.8%. The final approach was initiated from the north east, heading 233.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,370 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft successfully touched down on the runway, with a touchdown speed of 117 knots, which was within the acceptable range.
The threshold height at 75 feet agl was above the target, indicating that the aircraft was slightly higher than desired at the point of touchdown. However, the threshold speed of 121 knots was good, indicating that the aircraft was well-controlled and within the desired speed range. The touchdown distance of 418 meters was also within the acceptable range, demonstrating the aircraft's ability to land smoothly and efficiently.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 14°C and winds of 15 knots at 189°. The crosswind component was 10 knots, while the headwind component was 11 knots. These conditions presented a moderate challenge for the aircraft, but the pilots successfully managed the aircraft to achieve a safe and controlled landing.
However, there were some areas for improvement in the landing. The touchdown rate of -610 feet per minute (fpm) was considered heavy, indicating that the aircraft touched down with a higher rate of descent than desired. Additionally, the runway rollout alignment was excessively misaligned by 84.0 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to the pilots' difficulty in maintaining a straight course during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, but there were some areas for improvement. The pilots demonstrated good control and management of the aircraft, but there were some minor issues with the touchdown rate and runway rollout alignment.
