A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 305 m and 152 m above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,000 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 537 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport, the Boeing 737-800 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took approximately 8 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. Upon reaching runway 28, the aircraft initiated its departure roll, accelerating down the 1,030-meter stretch that comprised 37% of the runway's length. At a liftoff speed of 146 knots, the aircraft successfully took to the skies, with a local temperature of 17°C and wind conditions of 5 knots at 140°.
As the aircraft climbed away from Genoa, it began its enroute climb, ascending from an initial altitude of 312 meters above sea level to a cruising altitude of 10,431 meters. This climb phase, which lasted 17 minutes, covered a distance of 97 nautical miles and resulted in an altitude increase of 10,119 meters. Following this, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, maintaining a steady altitude and airspeed for 29 minutes as it covered a distance of 217 nautical miles. The enroute descent phase commenced 80 miles south-west of Ponza, Italy, where the aircraft began its gradual descent from 10,450 meters to 453 meters above sea level, a decrease of 9,997.2 meters in 21 minutes.
Upon reaching the final approach phase, the aircraft began its descent towards runway 07 at Falcone-Borsellino Airport, navigating a heading of 67.0° from the south-west. The aircraft touched down 118 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 129 knots, slightly above the target speed. The touchdown rate was good at -1.0 meters per second, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took approximately 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 439 nautical miles, with a total flight time of 79 minutes and a fuel consumption of 3,167 kilograms.
The Boeing 737-800 touched down on runway 07 at LICJ Falcone–Borsellino Airport, demonstrating a satisfactory approach quality. The aircraft descended from an altitude of 436.2 meters above ground level (agl) to 18.6 meters agl at the threshold, exceeding the target height. The approach was conducted from the southwest, heading 67.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was slightly above the target at 129 knots, resulting in a touchdown point 118 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown rate of -1.0 meters per second was within acceptable limits. Runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating precise control during the final stages of the approach. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 16°C and a 15-knot wind at 50°, contributed to a relatively stable approach environment. The crosswind component was minimal at 4 knots, while the headwind component was 14 knots.
The aircraft's rollout was characterized by excellent alignment, with the aircraft remaining centered on the runway. The total landing distance of 1,229 meters, accounting for 41% of the runway length, was within acceptable limits. Overall, the landing performance was satisfactory, with a score of 95.8%.
