MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 602 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 602 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 28 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Kodiak 100 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at EDYW Wildberg, a process that took approximately 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then departed from runway 21, with a takeoff distance of 310 meters, which accounted for 82% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 65 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 18°C and winds of 2 knots at 93 degrees. The crosswind was 2 knots, while the tailwind was 1 knot. The enroute climb began 1 mile west of Sigmarszell, Bavaria, Germany, where the aircraft climbed from an altitude of 2,672 feet above sea level to 4,989 feet, an increase of 2,317 feet in just 2 minutes, covering a distance of 3 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 1 mile south east of Lindau, Bavaria, Germany, and lasted for 2 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The enroute descent began 1 mile north of Lustenau, Vorarlberg, Austria, where the aircraft descended from 4,799 feet to 1,464 feet, a decrease of 3,335 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 4 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 05 at LOIH Hohenems-Dornbirn Airfield was made from the south west, with a heading of 46.0 degrees at an altitude of 111 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 05 was successful, with a runway length of 602 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 70 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 27 meters, but the touchdown speed of 72 knots was slightly faster than expected. The touchdown rate was firm at -308 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the runway rollout alignment was also excellent. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 20°C and winds of 8 knots at 67 degrees, with a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 7 knots.
The total landing distance was 289 meters, which accounted for 48% of the runway. The total flight distance was 13 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 12 minutes. The aircraft used 28 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The aircraft in question, a Kodiak 100, successfully landed at the LOIH Hohenems-Dornbirn Airfield, achieving a score of 96.3%. The final approach to runway 05 was initiated from the south west, with a heading of 46.0° at an altitude of 111 feet above ground level (agl) and a distance of 0 nautical miles from the runway.
Upon landing, the aircraft demonstrated good threshold height, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The threshold speed of 70 knots was also satisfactory, suggesting that the pilot had effectively managed the aircraft's speed during the approach. The touchdown distance of 27 meters was within acceptable limits, further indicating a well-executed landing.
However, the touchdown speed of 72 knots was slightly faster than expected, which may have resulted in a firmer touchdown rate of -308 feet per minute (fpm). Despite this, the runway touchdown alignment was deemed very good, suggesting that the pilot had maintained control of the aircraft during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 20°C and a wind speed of 8 knots from a direction of 67°. The crosswind component was minimal at 3 knots, while the headwind component was 7 knots. These conditions likely contributed to the successful landing, as the aircraft was able to maintain a stable approach and touchdown.
The total landing distance of 289 meters was 48% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance. This suggests that the pilot had effectively managed the aircraft's speed and descent rate during the approach. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the pilot had maintained control of the aircraft during the landing and rollout phases.
Overall, the landing was deemed successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score of 96.3%. The pilot's effective management of the aircraft's speed and descent rate, combined with the favorable weather conditions, contributed to the successful outcome.
