Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,895 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,895 m of the 2,757 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 610 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 26 at Joslin Field Magic Valley Regional Airport, also known as KTWF. The aircraft, a CRJ900, accelerated down the 2,457-meter runway, covering 93% of its length, before lifting off at a speed of 149 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were characterized by a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius, a wind speed of 7 knots from a direction of 200 degrees, resulting in a 7-knot crosswind and a 2-knot headwind.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb 1 mile west of KTWF, rising from an initial altitude of 4,622 feet above sea level to 11,274 feet in just 4 minutes, covering a distance of 11 nautical miles. This marked the beginning of a series of enroute climbs and descents, with the aircraft reaching a maximum altitude of 11,461 feet above sea level.
The first enroute level cruise started 8 miles west of Hollister, Idaho, and lasted for 16 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 91 nautical miles. This was followed by a descent from 11,461 feet to 9,631 feet in just 2 minutes, covering a distance of 8 nautical miles. The aircraft then leveled off again 8 miles southwest of Rockford, Idaho, for a brief 2-minute cruise, covering a further 8 nautical miles.
The final descent of the enroute phase began 3 miles south of the ID12 Russell W Anderson Strip Riverside, with the aircraft descending from 9,276 feet to 5,706 feet in 4 minutes, covering a distance of 9 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 21 at Pocatello Regional Airport, KPIH, from the northeast, heading 225.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,249 feet above ground level and 4 nautical miles from the runway.
The landing was made on runway 21, which was 2,757 meters long, with a good threshold height. The threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 142 knots, but the touchdown speed of 126 knots was good. The touchdown point was 198 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown rate was fair at -217 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 4.0 meters.
The total landing distance was 1,819 meters, which was 66% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good, and the aircraft taxied to the parking area from the runway in less than 1 minute, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 134 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 30 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 1,088 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The CRJ900 aircraft successfully landed at KPIH Pocatello Regional Airport, achieving a score of 93.8%. The final approach was initiated from the north-east, heading 225.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,249 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft successfully touched down on runway 21, which has a length of 2,757 meters.
The threshold height was reported as good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct height as it approached the runway. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 142 knots. Despite this, the touchdown speed of 126 knots was considered good, indicating that the aircraft was able to slow down effectively before touching down.
The touchdown point was located 198 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively short distance. The touchdown rate of -217 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, suggesting that the aircraft could have slowed down more effectively during the landing. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.0 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's approach path.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were reported as a temperature of 18°C, which is relatively mild. The total landing distance of 1,819 meters was 66% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft was able to stop within a reasonable distance. The runway rollout alignment was very good, suggesting that the aircraft was able to maintain its alignment with the runway during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a good touchdown speed and a relatively short landing distance. However, there were some minor issues with the threshold speed and touchdown rate, which may be areas for improvement in future landings.
