Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,104 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 557 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 23L at Düsseldorf Airport, with the Airbus A321 taking off after a distance of 873 meters, which accounted for 36% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 164 knots. At the time of departure, the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 18 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 5 knots from a direction of 313 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 5 knots and a headwind of 1 knot.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead Düsseldorf Airport. The aircraft ascended from an initial altitude of 1,251 feet above sea level to a height of 2,273 feet, an increase of 1,022 feet in just 1 minute, while covering a distance of 3 nautical miles. Following this climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 2 minutes and covered a distance of 5 nautical miles, starting 1 mile northwest of Meerbusch.
The enroute descent phase began 2 miles north of Düsseldorf Airport, where the aircraft descended from an altitude of 2,013 feet above sea level to 1,051 feet, a decrease of 962 feet in 2 minutes, while covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 23R at Düsseldorf Airport was made from the northeast, with the aircraft heading 227.0 degrees at an altitude of 914 feet above ground level and a distance of 3 nautical miles from the runway.
The landing on runway 23R was successful, with the touchdown point being 134 meters beyond the touchdown zone. However, the touchdown speed of 116 knots was slightly faster than desired, and the touchdown rate of -209 feet per minute was fair. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 17 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 5 knots from a direction of 313 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 5 knots and a headwind of 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 1,315 meters, which accounted for 62% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 10.1 meters from the centerline. The total flight distance was 14 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 7 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 8,803 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at Düsseldorf Airport (EDDL) on runway 23R, achieving a score of 95.8%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north-east, heading 227.0° at a distance of 3 nautical miles and an altitude of 914 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 121 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 134 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is slightly outside the optimal area. However, the touchdown speed of 116 knots was a bit faster than desired, indicating that the pilot may have needed to apply more braking force upon touchdown. The touchdown rate of -209 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, suggesting that the aircraft's descent was not excessively steep.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 17°C and a gentle wind of 5 knots from 313°. This resulted in a minimal crosswind component of 5 knots and a slight headwind of 1 knot. The total landing distance of 1,315 meters was 62% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft had sufficient stopping power to come to a stop within the available runway.
Despite the satisfactory landing, there was a slight misalignment of the runway rollout alignment, with the aircraft deviating from the centerline by 10.1 meters. This minor deviation may have been due to the pilot's response to the slightly fast touchdown speed or other factors affecting the aircraft's braking performance. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft coming to a stop within the designated runway area.
