Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,735 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 656 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in question began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 13 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, Vueling's EC-MGZ, then departed from runway 24L at LEBL Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,387 meters, which accounted for 52% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 148 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 11 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 6 knots at 320 degrees. The crosswind was 6 knots, while the headwind was 2 knots. As the aircraft took off, it began its enroute climb, which started 1 mile southwest of the airport. The climb took 22 minutes, during which the aircraft ascended from 1,040 feet above sea level to 36,301 feet, an increase of 35,261 feet.
The enroute climb was followed by a brief level cruise, which lasted 2 minutes and covered a distance of 12 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another climb, this time from 36,299 feet to 36,832 feet, an increase of 533 feet in 2 minutes. The climb was followed by a descent, which started overhead Godella and took 2 minutes to descend from 36,958 feet to 36,298 feet, a decrease of 660 feet.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, which lasted 20 minutes and covered a distance of 136 nautical miles. The cruise was followed by a descent, which started 4 miles east of La Iruela and took 5 minutes to descend from 36,334 feet to 25,662 feet, a decrease of 10,672 feet. The aircraft then entered another level cruise, which lasted 2 minutes and covered a distance of 10 nautical miles.
The enroute cruise was followed by a descent, which started 2 miles southeast of Benalua de las Villas and took 9 minutes to descend from 25,663 feet to 9,817 feet, a decrease of 15,846 feet. The aircraft then entered another level cruise, which lasted 2 minutes and covered a distance of 6 nautical miles. The cruise was followed by a descent, which started overhead La Roda de Andalucia and took 10 minutes to descend from 9,817 feet to 1,328 feet, a decrease of 8,489 feet.
The final approach to runway 12 at LEMG Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport was made from the northwest, with a heading of 118.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,278 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 12, which had a length of 2,735 meters. The threshold height at 55 feet above ground level was slightly above target, while the threshold speed was well above target at 152 knots.
The touchdown point was 233 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 136 knots and a touchdown rate of -205 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the runway rollout alignment was also very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 14 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 33 knots at 99 degrees. The crosswind was 10 knots, while the headwind was 32 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,330 meters, which accounted for 49% of the runway. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 5 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 440 nautical miles, which was covered in 94 minutes, and the
Aircraft Vueling EC-MGZ successfully landed at Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport, achieving a score of 95.5%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north-west, heading 118.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,278 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was made to runway 12, which has a length of 2,735 meters.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down 233 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, with a speed of 136 knots. This touchdown speed was considered good, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. However, the touchdown rate of -205 feet per minute (fpm) was only fair, suggesting that the aircraft may have experienced a slight bounce or oscillation upon touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 14°C and a wind speed of 33 knots from a direction of 99°. This resulted in a crosswind of 10 knots and a headwind of 32 knots, which may have affected the aircraft's approach and landing. Despite these conditions, the runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway.
The total landing distance of 1,330 meters was 49% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance. This suggests that the aircraft was able to land smoothly and efficiently, with minimal loss of speed and control. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain a stable and controlled roll-out after touchdown.
Overall, the landing of Vueling EC-MGZ at Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport was a successful one, with a high score and minimal deviations from the target parameters. The aircraft's ability to handle the challenging weather conditions and maintain a smooth and controlled descent was a testament to the skill and expertise of the pilots involved.
